WFOR and WTVJ in trouble with the FAA

WFOR and WTVJ in trouble with the FAA
Miami Herald 11/7/01
Apparently local stations keep an eye not only on the news, but on each other too. Proof of that is a call made from “someone” at WPLG to the FAA notifying the agency that WFOR-CBS4 and WTVJ-NBC6 had their choppers flying during a police chase which went through Miami and ended all the way down to Plantation Key, just south of Key Largo.
As you probably know the FAA has imposed restrictions on news choppers flying close to certain metro areas. For South Florida, the no-fly zones are 20 mile nautical radius around Miami International Aiport and the second is near Turkey Point nuclear powerplant. The FAA will investigate and if WFOR and WTVJ are found to have violated the rules, severe penalties on both the pilots and the stations can be imposed.
WSVN and WPLG didnt cover the police chase, which at some points reached 100pmh, due the restrictions.

I know, no videos yet. I have ALL of the news videos coded in Windows Media format (wmv) and the lovely Geocities does not support it. They support only Windows Media Audio (wma). How nice indeed.

On the other hand, I have a lot of sites to manage (upwards of 20) and so it will be a couple of days before I get back to this one.

But, in the meantime if you have any suggestions about a descent host, please let me know @ fltv@yahoo.com

Fun weekend to everyone

WSVN with facelift

0

WSVN has just updated their grafix, however Geocities wont let me upload *.wmv files so I’m checking out other options* * * *

Well finally huh 🙂 … Sorry was busy with my other sites and stuff, so I kind of left it for a while, but it’s back up. I decided to stick with good ‘ol Geocities free hosting. Crossing fingers they wont shut down :).

In the future I’ll try to have updates couple of times a week or so, if there’s anything to update. So keep checking

WFOR CBS4 snached the #1 spot for midday news and for some later spots. Their ratings are up 20% from one year ago 5pm, 18% at 5:30pm and 19% at 6pm. For the 11pm slot, they lost 9% from their audience. Their 10pm newscast produced for UPN33 News at 10 beat out the more established WTVJ production WB39 News at 10. However, the combined ratings of both newscasts don’t even come close to what WSVN has for their 10pm news.

WTVJ NBC6 on the other side, gets the big chair for top late weeknight newscast, although their late new lead over the marked is diminishing.

WSVN FOX7 is seeing a ratings decline since Rick Sanchez left, but they still are number one at 5pm and 5:30pm. And their “Today in Florida” show which runs from 5am to 9am, is not only number one in the mornings, but also beats the network produced morning shows! For 10pm The News Station still has the biggest audience.

WPLG ABC10 is number one at 6pm with a 7 rating. One ratings point in S. Florida is equal to about 15,726 households. WFOR, WTVJ and WSVN were separated by a four-tenths of a ratings point for this time slot.

Overall, WFOR is the highest rated english-language station, followed by a tie of WSVN and WPLG, and WTVJ after them, and UPN33 and WB39 trailing next.
