WPLG’s Ross Palombo Heads For San Francisco

Add Ross Palombo to the list of on-air staff leaving the Miami market. The former WPGL Local 10 news investigative reporter landed a weekend anchoring gig at KTVU, the FOX affiliate in San Francisco recently. In addition to that he’ll also serve as a political and investigative reporter for the weekday newscasts.

Palombo had been with WPLG Local 10 for five years having joined back in 2010. The good thing is he’s leaving with fond memories of his time down here, not the least of which is all that Emmy hardware he acquired while here, we counted 7 of them in 2014 alone.

WFOR Goes Outside for Rhiannon Ally Replacement

WFOR announced today Rudabeh Shahbazi will be joining CBS 4 News This Morning as co-anchor, replacing Rhiannon Ally who left recently. Shahbazi was most recently a multimedia journalist and fill-in anchor at KABC in Los Angeles.

A quick search on Shahbazi turned up a few interesting tidbits about her. She has a master’s degree from the University of California, Berkley Graduate School of Journalism and received her undergraduate degree in journalism at Pepperdine University. She’s of Iranian heritage, born in Germany but grew up in Oregon. She was educated in England, Costa Rica and California and interned for the National Geographic. Rudabeh is fluent in English and Farsi, and conversational Spanish.

And a little trivia if you’re curious, the most likely meaning of her name is shining child. Its origins trace back to Persian mythology where the mother of the mythical Persian hero Rustam was named Rudabeh.

Look for Rudabeh Shahbazi to make her first on-air appearance on WFOR CBS 4 News August 3.

And here is a sample of her work while at ABC

On the heels of husband Mike Marza leaving WSVN, now it’s WFOR CBS4 News morning anchor Rhiannon Ally’s turn. Ally signed off Channel 4 yesterday morning.

Her husband, Mike Marza moved on earlier from WSVN, and already co-anchors the main newscasts at Kansas City’s NBC affiliate KSHB where he interned, reported, and anchored several years ago. Both he and Rhiannon are area natives, Ally told CBS4 viewers they decided to return home to be closer to family

Kelley Mitchell Has Passed Away

Very, very so very sad to report that our Kelley Mitchell died at her home in Miami Shores on Sunday. She was just 58 years old. The Sun Sentinel reports cause of death hasn’t been determined yet.

I didn’t have the pleasure of knowing her personally, and only had limited contact with her a few times but she was one of those local journalists I never heard anyone say something bad about. She was … IS, the real deal.

I followed her on Twitter, instantly clicked with her humour and will remember Kelley as the funny, sarcastic chick she was. Our deepest condolences go out to her husband Kirk Wade.

She will be missed.
