update: SFLTV asked for comment about the rumor and Post-Newsweek boss lady Emily Barr responded directly that the rumor is not true, saying Bill Pohovey is “the VP and News Director of the station and nothing has changed”. And there you have it, you can safely put your resumes back in the drawer.

Ratings: Grammy Awards Are Tops

The Sun Sentinel has the ratings round-up of the 10 most watch shows locally.

Miami viewers liked the Grammy Awards on CBS more than they did the Miami Heat. The award telecast is number one with 386,000 viewers while the Heat game on Sun Sports had mere 197,000 and placed second.

Viewers apparently aren’t so tired of American Idol, the show placed 9th and it’s Thursday broadcast was in 12th place

Ratings: Sports on TV Kicks the New Year Off

The Sun Sentinel Top 10 most watched programs on local TV is out and the telenovelas have disappeared from it for now, most viewers in the market it appears have decided to start the year off with loads of sports.

The only non-sports shows int he top ten were the Golden Globes, 60 Minutes, and NCIS in 4th, 6th, and 10th place respectively. WFOR got the most eyeballs for the AFC Playoff Game on January 12 with 451,000 viewers, and cable net ESPN came in second for the BCS game with 359,000 viewers.

WPEC Gets a New ND

It wasn’t long until Palm Beach CBS affiliate WPEC received a new news director. Sinclair picked Mike McCormick to take over for Cathy Younkin, and hopefully pull the station out third place.

McCormick has been an ND at several stations, until recently at WTEV-WAWS, the Cox-owned duopoly up in Jacksonville. He was also an ND at WTLV Firstcoast News in Jacksonville for seven years from 1999 until 2006.
