Jen Herrera No Longer Anchoring WPLG Mornings

Jen Herrera No Longer Anchoring WPLG Mornings

Mere months after getting a new co-anchor WPLG anchor Jen Herrera has been moved back to reporter as of yesterday. For now Jacey Birch will be in her place anchoring alongside Eric Yutzy until the station decides on a permanent replacement.

Channel 10’s morning newscast has seen quite a bit of change in the last year. A year and a half ago SFLTV first reported Jen Hererra’s promotion to weekday mornings after Kristy Krueger moved to anchor the noon and afternoon newscasts. And in March this year Local 10 suddenly removed anchor Jason Martinez from the anchor desk, and paired Herrera with newcomer Eric Yutzy.

And from what we hear, there may be more changes in store for Channel 10

WPEC 3pm Newscast Set to Debut Today

WPEC 3pm Newscast Set to Debut Today

It’s by no means a new thing among TV news stations but it is locally. WPEC CBS12 today is launching the area’s first 3pm weekday newscast. They call it CBS 12 News at 3 and it’s aimed at women, especially the stay-at-home mom crowd. Liz Quirantes will anchor the new show with Suzanne Boyd and Stephanie Wilson filing pre-taped stories daily.

3pm newscasts don’t seem to be very common among TV stations. A quick Google search showed KMGH in Denver and KSNV in Las Vegas airing news at 3pm. It’s no secret WPEC has fallen behind in the ratings after a resurgent WPBF took over second place, so CBS 12 is looking for other time slots where it can be competitive.

Here’s a promo they’ve been airing for the past couple weeks featuring anchors Suzanne Boyd, Liz Quirantes and Stephanie Watson.

Ashley Morrison Lands at WSVN

Ashley Morrison Lands at WSVN

Ashley Morrison, former CBS Moneywatch reporter, has joined WSVN as a general assignment reporter. Her first day reporting on 7 News was during the 4pm newscast today. Morrison was a financial reporter for CBS Moneywatch in New York until September 2013 but when the network decided to originate the program from the New York Stock Exchange Morrison quit because of the added two-hour commute. She was also an anchor and reporter with Bloomberg Television for two years, from 2007 to 2009.

Morrison’s arrival at WSVN marks a fresh start for her and her son. She had a very public fallout with her husband, former WCBS anchor Rob Morrison, who got arrested on February 17, 2013 and later charged with second-degree threatening, second-degree strangulation and disorderly conduct for allegedly choking his wife. He pled guilty on July 3, 2013 to threatening and breach of peace charges. Rob Morrison got arrested again in June for violating the protective order about Ashley Morrison.

Full Reveal. WPLG’s Good Looking New Set

We spoiled the surprise a few days ago with our own exclusive shot, but at noon Wednesday WPLG finally revealed their new set. Along with it a new virtual weather set went live as well.

Overall we like it a lot. From some angles it gives off a very European vibe, like something you might see on ZDF, or the BBC.

Some shots from the new set below
