Will They Move The Newsplex!?

10

First North Bay villagers wanted to turn the place into a park. Now a tipster says WIOD, which is right next to the WSVN building, is getting ready to remove its transition tower within the year. Once the tower is gone so will be the building and on its place the plan is to build a high-rise leaving many WSVN employees without parking.

The Ansin family, which owns a lot of undeveloped land in Miramar, have already began looking into moving the station there.

WTVJ’s main studios are also in Miramar

  1. Poetic justice would be to move them right my the Dade landfill, at County Line and 47th Avenue. Ansin owns that land, on the Miramar side. Perfect.

  2. The Newsplex deserves a better location, Downtown Miami. I know that is costs more than Miramar, but it would be in line with sister station WHDH in Boston.

  3. I agree with md. Miami is the heart and soul of this TV market, although 7 probably has more viewers in Broward. I was upset when WTVJ left downtown.

  4. I would normally advocate staying in downtown, but I now live in LA and the downtown sucks. All the local stations here are spread out, CBS is in Studio City, ABC is in Burbank, NBC is in Burbank as well, and FOX is in West LA. The WB/CW station is in Hollywood and the UPN/MNTV station is owned by FOX and housed in West LA. Most stations if not all have bureaus in the Inland Empire and Orange County.

Miami’s downtown is so much more attractive than LA and a major presence by at least 2 stations in the area is necessary. The secondary studio at the AAA does not count (WTVJ). Isn’t 4 located in downtown?

  5. In response to MDivan, no WFOR is not in downtown. Their studios are in NW Miami-Dade County in the Doral area.

Also, why is WIOD near channel 7 and not in the Clear Channel building on Riviera Blvd. in Miramar with the rest of the Clear Channel stations?

  6. There are currently no major TV stations located downtown. Channel 10 is the closest, located in the design district area.

The WIOD building in North Bay Village is a former facility. The station’s staff is in the Clear Channel Building in Miramar.

Md, I agree. WTVJ’s AAA facility doesn’t count. I know what you’re saying about all the LA stations being spread out, but at least they’re all in LA County.

  7. Why do you guys even try and act like you know what you are talking about? Give it all a rest nobody is moving nowhere. Give it all a rest WSVN is not moving anywwhere. This is how conspiracy theory’s and rumors start. Spend your time talking about more relevant issues.

  8. WIOD’s towers and transmitter are still located on Broadcast Key, next to WSVN. Moving towers is a major deal, requiring lots of FCC-required public-record paperwork prior to approval. Haven’t seen or read anything about it. I’m sure ClearChannel is less than enthused about all the North Bay Village high rises going up around their towers, regardless they’d be hard-pressed to find a better location than where they are now (AM loves water around the tower – that’s why their signal remains one of the best). In otherwords, if they are going anywhere, it’s a long ways a way.
