Reporter Shows Us The Danger of Rip Currents, By Jumping Into One

Why bribe viewers with a chance to win something when you can throw a real life TV news reporter into a rip current during sweeps month?

With as many as 50 beach goers being pulled out of the ocean just this past week alone after getting caught in a rip current, WPTV decided the best way to explain “what it’s like to be in a rip current”, and inform us not to panic and swim at an angle, was by having reporter Ryan Calhoun jump into a rip current himself. With a life guard nearby in the water with him.

In the end, swimming at an angle didn’t help Calhoun, he panicked and he still had to get pulled out by the lifeguard.
