North Bay Village plan: replace WSVN with a public park!

45

I missed that somehow, but a story in the Miami Herald about the Kennedy Causeway upgrades that are being proposed as well as North Bay Village’s plans to deal with high-rise buildings and beautification plans.

North Bay Village is where WSVN’s main studios currently reside, just to the side of the Kenney Causeway. North Bay Village residents have proposed that a community center or public park be made where WSVN buildings currently stand. They want a place where the community can meet and also to preserve Biscane Bay views as new high-rise buildings are about to get built. The 360 Condos project is right to the side of the WSVN studios – Imagine paying $800,000 for a 1/1 condo and having 7Skyforce take off and land every day. Ahmazing!

Can’t wait to see what’s going to happen.

In other news, rumor has it WPLG have sold, are about to sell or think of selling their current studios near downtown Miami for a condo project or something else and move west!

  1. $800K is quite a bargain for a 1/1.. and new residents won’t be buzzed by 7Skyforce! It hasn’t landed there for months thanks to a land dispute with the owner of the old, now empty, WIOD building next door.

  2. it means nothing, yet
if the citizens vote for a park in place of WSVN then I’d imagine there are things to be worked out.

Hard to believe they’d replace a multi-millian dollar business with a park though

  3. I know admin its so retarded that there going to do that. I think that they should tear down some of the low dow buisess that are not making any money and that are closed down and they should use that for the park not for a place thats made to keep the community posted with whats going on in there world, and so on.

  4. Murrow,

I was recently in NBV and I mean low down (sorry for the typo) and there were alot of Low Down businesses.

  5. Also I haven’t heard or seen anything on it. But is WSVN going to do anything for their 50th anniversary in July?

  6. Double A- wsvn had a new studio built a few years back i thought… was it in the same place in north bay village

  7. No I don’t think so. They have been there definately atleast 15 years because the newsplex debuted I believe it was in 1991. Maybe the studio itself is not that old. In the WSVN building I think they have 3 seperate studios with the main one of course being the newsplex. But the station has been there forever. I don’t even know where they were located before when they were WCKT

  8. 7 has always been at North Bay Village near the causeway I think.
They also have a studio in Forth Lauderdale. With a big giant 7 sign on top of the entrance if I remember right and it too has a monitor wall and red railings. They’ve had Finklestein live from there a few times

  9. The Fort Lauderdale station I pass everyday on my way to work. It’s on Andrews right off of Davie Blvd. The building itself is very very small. During the day you can see a few newstrucks in the parking lot on the ready for anything that might happen in Broward.

  10. This was bound to happen, but where is there any cheap real estate left? One hint, station owner Ed Ansin owns a heck of a lot of property near the Dade/Broward border, including commercial property right next to the Turnpike. (BTW, Dolphin Stadium is built on land which I THINK may have belonged to him once.) Wouldn’t it be funny with little old Miramar possibly hosting not one but three stations (7, plus 6 and 51?) 10 is in the same boat, and now that the Performing Arts Center is finally almost nearly ready, don’t be surprised if the illustrious Herald looks to move well inland as well. While we’re on the subject, good riddance to Tony Ridder and his family. They played a big part in manipulating the vote that funded the American Airlines Arena, then packed their corporate HQ and moved back to Silicon Valley. They meddled in local politics to drive up their real estate value, bottom line. If Warren Buffett had been Tony Ridder’s daddy, he’d be selling the Herald on a street corner now. Greedy idiot.

  11. I know its a tad off of subject but does anyone know what TV stations Clear Channel owns? Im here at Miami Dade taking a summer camp and my proffessor told me that Clear Channel owns radio (clearly) and tv stations but im not really sure. Admin? Know the answer?

  12. Clear Channel has a building in Miramar where a few different radio stations are in. They are Y-100, Mega 94.9(formally Zeta), 610 WIOD, Big 106, Love 94, 103.5 The Beat, & 940am WINZ. Out of Palm Beach which some stations are picked up in Broward, they have 94.3 WZZR Real Radio, Classic 92.1, Wild 95.5, Kool 105.5, Gater 98.7, 1290am WJNO, & 1230am WBTZ.

That’s just a smattering of what they own. Clear Channel owns only 2 stations in Florida. WAWS & WTEV which are both out of Jacksonville.

  13. So i drove by the SVN studio in Fort Laurdale and DAMN that thing is small. its about 1-2 miles west of Las Olas. IT did have a huge 7 sign on it. But i was surpise how small it is.

  14. guys… what 7 has in Fort Lauderdale is NOT a STUDIO. It’s a BUREAU. That’s it. It’s basically an office that happens to have a small background that can occasionally be used to front stories. I’m not even sure there’s a permanently installed camera in there. It’s NOT a television “station.”

  15. only the newscast is produced by NBC6. NBC6 and the Sun Sentinel are partners, and the Sentinel is owned by Tribune

  16. Does anybody think WBFS/UPN33 will survive? The first week of September it will revert to independant station again as it was in the 80’s and early 90’s. I think it will since there are so many local independant stations right now on air and each of them have their own little success.

Also did you people know there is local Chinese station on the air? Though the reception is absolutely horrible. I don’t remember the exact number but I do believe it was in the mid 40s.

And one more time, nothing on WSVN’s 50th which is 2 weeks from this Saturday?

  17. Double, are you thinking WBFS will go off the air? That’s not going to happen. Even a low-rated station in this town still rakes in the money. WBFS may not have a huge audience, but it’s a young, profitable audience. Also, It’s only losing 2 hours of programming a day. Also, it’s owned by CBS, which isn’t going to just turn out the lights. And you say there are a lot of independent stations out there, but what other full-power, commercial, English-language, independent stations are in this market? I can’t think of any off the top of my head. WBFS is going to go through a change, and it may take a little while for it to figure out what it wants to be, but it’s not going anywhere.

  18. Yeah, I agree with murrow there is a spanish independent station out there WJAN/America Teve 41 and there ratings are so low that they ended up losing one of there shows. There station is based out of Hialeah Gardens down here in Miami. I love the station they have really funny shows and stuff but there ratings are real low and there making money. Also, my cousin was in a Infomercial for the Brazilian Diet on WJAN, just a little info. =)
