Watching 7 right now and they just ran a NewsAlert about the worm that affects Windows 2000 computers. I just found it odd that this would make it on the air considering how many viruses and worms there are.
Update: apparently they picked up the story because CNN is also running the same story as breaking news. I still can’t see what the big deal is. Hm
I don’t think this was a big deal, but cnn had some pc’s go down and apparently the world needed to know how bad their IT department is.
The problem is that the worm affected CNN’s computers, as well as ABC’s, the New York Times’, and the Associated Press. Thus confirming the news cliche: It’s news, when it happens to us.
There’s no reason this should’ve been breaking news – no one at home cares if CNN’s computers go down. The media has to stop navel-gazing, and start thinking like the audience.
