  1. It seems they like the Michael Williams type over at WTVJ. THis guy look just like him only difference is that he’s smiling (at least in the photo). I would think they would try to find someone to take over Tony’s chair. Tony just doesnt work for me.

  2. Joel also works for KCBS 2 as well as KCAL 9, but does most of his reports for the KCAL 9 Newscasts at 8, 9, and 10 p.m.

  3. I saw Joel Connable do a breaking news cut in today (Tuesday) on NBC. He did one report about the plane crash in Toronto. I thought he was great. He is very smooth, confident and as my wife said during the report, “He’s a hottie!” I don’t think he looked like Michael Williams at all. He looks totally different than any other anchor or reporter here. I wonder if he will anchor a lot there? They need new blood at WTVJ. I look forward to seeing Joel more – he seems real and not like all the other news people on television. Just my two cents. Mike

  4. I saw Joel too. he did a story about Wacovia Bank and identiy stealing. Your wife is right! He’s a hottie. I also heard from an agent friend of mine in Los Angeles that he’s making a lot of money here and that’s why he left LA. She told me he’s getting around 200 thousand or more. Your web site should see if that’s true. That’s a lot more than more Miami reporters get. Channel 6 must really think he will help them. He isn’t on their web site yet so I can’t email him to ask him questions? But, please find out if he’s single and what his deal is. Thanks

  5. dear single thinking she can land tv news personality.

Joel is happily married and is our gift from LA to you. If you all want the skinny on Joel here it is:
He was king reporter at KCBS /CAL in LA. They fought hard to keep him. A CLOSE friend of mine was his assistant, so I consider my info 99% accurate. He hit some sort of ceiling at CBS in regards to the avenue of reporting he was going towards, investigative. They have a contracted “investigative” reporter there and could not use Joel for that. Joel was orginally talking about going to MSNBC, who knows why he stepped down markets. Miami is great and all, but Joel is over qualified. Guaranteed it’s not all money, nor the anchoring. From what I understand he did not want to be the “anchor” kind of guy. From what I hear LA fought back with a large salary, 250Kplus. It’s gotta be the freedom and the oppotunity. Who knows. We miss him over here. CBS in LA is feeling the loss and now it’s the agent’s dream slot that is still to this exact date -vacant….

  6. I miss Joel in Los Angeles as well. I interned with Joel a long time ago and he was always so nice about helping people get in the business. One correction though, Joel is not married yet. I know he is dating a very pretty girl who I think may be Dutch. I’m not sure. I would assume NBC Network is going to use Joel a lot since from what i heard on another site, he was put in Miami by the network so he could move up to them at some point. Good luck Joel.

  7. IN THE KNOW does not know anything….

Joel is not married & he was let go. Management had no interest in re-signing him, he wasn’t even included in the promos when kcal was bought out by viacom. he’s a good reporter, but his head tends to get big. he was not the king reporter…maybe a prince…but not the king. He claims his salary was doubled, but there is no way to verify that.
No one has heard from Joel since he left. apparently he doesn’t know how to keep in touch with his former vassals. good luck miami.

  8. Uh, no. I hope you don’t work in the news business because you print rumors that are not verified and lies that could only come out of an LA TV news station. Check with Joel’s agent – Ken Lindner and Associates and ask Rick Ramage what happened. Joel was offered a raise but ti wasn’t as high as what NBC offered him. I am one of Joel’s friends from LA and he calls me all the time. I also know he’s in touch with other people who were his true friends and not jealous, low lifes like you who are out to make themselves look important. Does it reall matter what Joel is getting? Is that what’s important. I always remember Joel as a great person who worked very hard to improve LA television news. His awards from the Emmy’s to the LA Press Club show that his peers respected him highly. Hey if this is Ron Fineman, haven’t you died yet?

  9. Does anyone know if Joel Connable is married, single, straight, gay, or anything else about him? I think he’s a great addition to NBC6 and would hope they promote him to a permanent anchor position real soon.

    He’s great eye candy.

  10. Joel is not married. He is dating someone though. A girl from what I have heard. There is a rumor going around NBC that he is the next weekend anchor when Michael Williams gets promoted to main anchor. That’s a rumor right now amongst those of us at the station. I have also heard the the network put him here in Miami until they decide what he can do for them. Apparantly, Joel is very popular with the network and they want him to do a lot for them as well.

  11. When Joel Conable anchored the weekend newscast in Miami – ratings were up tremendously. I wonder if TVJ is going ot give him a fulltime anchor gig. Joel Connable profile is up on NBC6.net. Apparantly he has diabetes. That is very sad. There is a rumor here at 30 Rock that Joel is wanted for a new medical show to debut on NBC nationally. No one knows if they are ever going to produce this show but apprantly the producers and president of NBC News really want Joel to do it. It would be interesting if Joel goes national. He’s got the gusto and the network look. The network sent out an email talking about how much they liked Joel doing network live shots during hurricane Wilma.

  12. I ran into Joel at Joe’s Stone Crab last weekend. He was extremely nice to me when I interupted his time with friends to say hello. I work at Channel 10 and I think he would be a great addition here. We need some young anchors at our station.

  13. joel’s a fag!….you guys need to get off his nuts, quick like……and LAnewsbitch, you can’t spell, i doubt you’re in the biz…..elita loresca’s breasts rule!!!

  14. piper I sure hope you aren’t in the news buisness. You need to go smoke on someone’s pipe and come down.

  15. It’s nice to see that there are very hateful homophobs on this site. What if Joel was gay? He’s a better person than you’ll ever be. By the way, he was with a very good looking girl at Joe’s. Piper must have something very small in his life. I’m sure he’ll get very difensive about my comment. Lets see. M

  16. Hi. Just got back from rehab. Too much pole smokin’. That’s for you admin, ya punk! Don’t hate Miriam, twat. I was using ‘fag’ as a figure of speech. And, ya, Joel is a fag, you fag. Elita’s bitties still rule!

  17. piper you should’ve gone to rehab your multiple personalities and decide man or woman. They should’ve kept you permanently, in a cage

  18. I was watching a dvd the other day of Paparazzi and has anyone seen that Joel Connable appears in the first scene? He plays a reporter at a film premiere. I gues when he was reporting in LA, they allowed reporters to do stuff like that. I heard the some NBC6 people are appearing in the new Miami Vice as well.

  19. I saw Joel in Paparazzi. Los Angeles reporters are allowed by their television stations to play themselves in moves. I’ve seen Joel in a few other things as well over the years. It’s something unique to Los Angeles.

  20. Has anyone wathed Joel anchoring the morning and noon newscasts lately. He’s very good. One of the best anchors I’ve seen in this town. Finally, a normal person anchoring the news unlike these hyper, crazy people on Channel 7 and 4. Joel’s also really funny. I wonder if TVJ is going to put him on the desk more often.

  21. I totally agree! It was great to see Joel this past week anchoring Today in South Florida, South Florida Today and NBC6 NewsNet. Joel deserves a permanent anchor position at NBC6. He would be a better choice to replace Tony Segreto than Michael Williams. Joel adds a new feeling to NBC6.

Does anyone know if the ratings this past week increased for NBC6 since Joel was anchoring? Just curious to know.

KEEP JOEL ON THE ANCHOR DESK!!!

  22. Joel is anchoring the 11:00 pm broadcast of NBC6 News. Great to see him “solo” on primetime. This is where Joel belongs…the MAIN anchor desk.

  23. Thanks NBC6 Insider for your recommendation. I have just sent a lengthy email to Yvette Miley with a strong recommendation for Joel Connable to be a main anchor at NBC6. Hopefully she reads it and takes my suggestions into consideration.

  24. I saw Joel on the 11pm as well. he is very good. He’s not rigid like all thos eother anchors. He’s funny. I heard him correct himself when he said something inaccurate. How many news people do that? He seems to be a real human being. That’s what we need more of on tv. I doubt NBC will realize that since they are so phony. I would watch NBC all the time if Joel was a main anchor. Every news channel in this town pretty much sucks. I think they need more people who are real.

  25. LA’s loss is Miami’s gain…Joel was a great reporter at CBS-2/KCAL-9. I’m sure he will be very successful and a great addition to any station.

  26. Joel Connable anchored yesterday’s 6:00 pm and 11:00 pm newcast. What a great sight last night…Joel, Ryan (weather) and Adam (sports). How could ask for a better gift from Santa.

  27. Just to let you gals know. Joel and his Fiancee broke up about a month and a half ago. She’s moving back to L.A. this week. He’s a workaholic and their relationship didn’t work out. Whatever personality he has on the air……he kind of lacks in real life. But I still think he’s a nice guy.

  28. It’s nice to see NBC finally updating their people. I think Joel Connable and Paul Deanno add some fresh talent to the newscats. Joel makes me laugh because he pretty much just speaks his mind on set. That’s what we need more of here in Miami – news people who are real people…REAL. I wonder how long Joel will be on weekends becasue I think he’s a main anchor.

  29. Has anyone seen this Big Money segment Joel is doing? Really good stuff. It’s a new, more in depth angle at something many television stations do once in a while. But, this time we have good info, several segments and lots of money. Wow, over 100 thousand dollars in one story. I found my name on the list for 500 bucks. I also saw what CBS4 did last night. Al Sunshine did an IRS refund story – obviously becasue 4 was worried NBC would steal their thunder. His IRS thing was crap. He didn’t tell me anything. There wasn’t even a way for me to check my name. So few people are owed tax refunds. What a cheap shot. It did not impress me at all that CBS couldn’t come up with its own consumer segment that was different that NBC’s. That’s just my two cents. Does anyone think Sunshine should set? He’s getting old and boring to watch.

  30. Interesting tip from a friend of mine at NBC. Apparantly the ratings for Saturday night at 11:35pm after the Olympics were huge when Joel Conable was anchoring. On Sunday, Joel was moved to reporting to bring in the big guns. I guess they wanted to profile Michale and Jackie, but ratings were way lower. Hmmmm. I know the OLympics draws a crowd but if ratings were that good on Sat, I wonder if Joel might be brining in a few people. I think people like fresh, young faces in Miami.

  31. Question? What does everyone think reporters make here in Miami? What would someone like Tom Ilamas make a year at NBC? How about soemone like Paul Deanno? I heard that Joel moved here from Los Angeles. If LA is a bigger market is he making more here. I heard reporters make 50 or so. I heard Deanno is making 500 thousand. I also heard that guy Conable makes around 200 or so. Can this be right? What are salaries like here? Does anyone know? I am a college student interested in broadcasting.

  32. NBC6 needs to stick with the program and allow Joel Connable the opportunity to increase their viewership. I for one was completely bored with their newspeople and their approach in delivering the news. Ever since Joel brought in a fresher way to report the news, I have returned to watching NBC6. They need to highly consider him to join their weekday/night newscast. Maybe make him co-anchor of the 5:00 pm newscast.

    Joel Connable rocks!

(P.S. This is truly a viewer’s opinion. I do not work for NBC6 and have not personally met Joel).

  33. I do work for NBC and I agree with Joel Connable fan. But, the best way to get management to change things is to email them. I know I can’t post email son this web site. But, our news director is Yvette Miley. All NBC emails are a person’s name followed by a period and then @nbcuni.com.

    Example: John.Doe@nbcuni.com
Maybe if people email NBC more about what they like – more changes will be made with, not just Joel, but other good reporters here as well like Amara Sohn, Jeff Burnside and others. Thanks

  34. I’ve watching nbc6 for several years now and I must agree Joel Connable brings a fresh look to the station with his presentations. Hope to see more of him in the future

  35. I was watching NBC6 tonight at saw Joel Connable doing a regular news report in the field. I have heard that becasue TVJ is short-staffed they are putting everyone out on reporting one week a month. He did a story about the FPL pole going through Miami Shores. He had the best report I have seen all day on that story. It was written really well and he did an excellent live shot. Did anyone else see it? It’s about time we get some good story telling in Miami.

  36. So now I know where Joel is…he was a hot papi and who the hell cares if he is gay or straight (although gay would mean that I would have a chance…)? He was a great anchor and LA misses him. We still have the rest of the KCAL people keeping it real and that’s what counts.

  37. JOEL CONNABLE MAY BE LEAVING WTVJ!!! I have heard from a reliable source with NBC that Joel Connable may leave NBC6 in the next few months. No one has confirmed why he might do this – but apparantly he has tried to introduce new ideas and encourgae better new converage and producers have resisted his suggestions. NBC 6 has been ordered by the new assistant news director Elias something to cover superficial breaking news stories, use interns as reporters and imitate Channel 7. I have been told by a good friend at WNBC in New York that they may hire Joel. I called to ask Joel if this was true and he told me he could not talk about personnel issues. He did say, “I would love to see this television station continue to strive to be the best it can be. It has a great history in Miami and there are great reporters and anchors here who know Miami like no one else in this town. I am just an out of town guy who wants to learn and help in any way I can.” WNBC would not confirm any information for me. I hope Joel stays. He is one of the best people on television in Miami. Just my two cents.

  38. I could totally see Joel going to the network now. NBC 6 has sent more reporters to the network than any other station in Miami. I always thought Joel should be the main anchor at WTVJ or at least anchor the 5pm or the mornings. Has anyone seen him anchor the weekends? He has a very nice conversational delivery and he’s quite funny. He’s not your “typical” news anchor.

  39. Joel Connable is in the hospital. Apparanty his appendix burst last week and thats why he is out of work for a while. He is in the surgical intensive care unit at Aventura Medical Center. His office has not confirmd if this is true, but a friend of mine who is a nurse there says she treated him. I don’t know his condition.

  40. What team does Joel play for? He’s very straight. His girlfriend is a beautiful nurse who works at a local hospital. By the way, Joel is anchoring Early Today and possibly MSNBC during the week of June 24th. They just were talking about it at the station earlier. I have a feeling the network is going to steal Joel away from us soon. He deserves it. He is a breath of fresh air and people really like him.
