Palm Beach viewers love golf according to a TCPalm.com story about the British Open television ratings for Palm Beach county.

The tournament, which aired on WPBF, received a high of 9.9/20 share from 2:15pm to 2:30pm and an average of 5.7/13 share on Sunday up from a 4.8/12 share in 2008. That means between 13 and 20% of Palm Beach households watched the British Open.

According to the story ABC’s national rating was 3.9 points, down from the 4.9 in 2007 when Tiger Woods last played in the British Open.

1 ratings point equals 7,824 households in Palm Beach county.

  1. Admin,
This is not as suprising as it may seem. First of all, while Tiger Woods was not playing the weekend, it was riveting/appointment television as a 59 year old former champion Tom Watson made a bid to become the oldest player ever to win a major championship. It was history in the making. He was winning until the last putt on the 18th hole on Sunday, it was extremely exciting to watch for hard core golf fans and the casual fan who just likes to see a great story.

So the fact that a market that already supports golf on TV and is always in the top 5 in the country when it comes to ratings for major golf tournaments had huge rating in that 2p hour on Sunday, when everything was decided, is not a surprise.
