Chopper 6 powered down yesterday April 30th 2009 for the last time. On April 2nd we reported that NBC ended their contract with Helicopters Inc which own and operate news helicopters for many TV stations throughout the country. The decision leaves WTVJ as the only station in Miami at the moment without their own news chopper. NBC-owned affiliates in San Francisco and New York are also without choppers now.
We’re told WTVJ is keeping their Metrotraffic contract and will use that feed from their chopper and brand it Chopper 6. Which will be sort of funny when all stations use the same feed.
I’m told the crew that flew Chopper 6 has joined the WPLG Sky10 crew.
at this point, they should just close WTVJ
why go through a slow painful death, just end it in one giant swoop.
Maybe they can get the xheli, it’s 2.4 ghz now!
I just saw that ad… haha
Actually WFOR and WSVN both use metro in the AM and call it as their own and if you flip from station to station it’s the same picture. It was WTVJ that did not call it chopper 6 for a long time.
