WTVJ Dumps Miami Studio

12
The WTVJ Miami studio at the American Airlines Arena is being shut down and all the people who work there, including Hank Tester, Nick Bogert and the photogs are moving up to Miramar. They are building a new desk area for them in the middle of the newsroom. It’s a long time coming. It seems as if all WTVJ used the Miami studio for was to just to show they have commitment to Miami. If i remember correctly, (and correct me if I’m wrong) all NBC6 used that Miami studio for was some.. Friday afternoon “Today Show” style show? They asked viewers to “come-on-down” and meet the news team, and maybe even get on TV. I always remember it was a disappointing crowd. Anyone remember what I’m talking about?

  1. yeah, people where invited down on a Friday afternoon.
Pay 20 dollars for parking, avoid homeless people, and risk you life crossing Biscayne blvd. just to try and appear on some local news crap…

    Brilliant !

  2. I’m glad that they’re shutting that studio down. It was a waste of space, and money. TVJ could use that money they’re paying the AAA for other things. Now, the AAA can lease that to Bongo’s, and finally have a club! 😀 Or, something else… Hmm…

  3. It was a waste of money, but I think they should have used the studio more. I rememeber when the NBC6 NEWS at 4PM debut with Jackie, Trina, Michael. Then the Friday’s live which was okay and then boring at the end, but enjoyed the newscast inside the studio and the biscayne bay as the backdrop. They could have used it for Today in South Florida and South Florida Today. What do you all think about this: WTVJ finds a cheaper place office space in downtown miami and have a bureau for dade and monroe counties?

    • anyone have a clip from the NBC-6 news at 4? Would love to see how they did a full newscast from the studio…

I must say that they are losing considerable convenience by not having photogs stationed out of downtown Miami. Now Channel 7 and Channel 4 are the only two English language stations with a station in Miami Dade – and both at least 20 minutes from downtown Miami.

  4. anyone notice that almost all of the recent news is NBC-6 related? Don’t get me wrong, this is the station I watch the most, and I really do enjoy hearing the dirt, but would love to hear more about 4, 10, and even 7…

    • You’re right, but unfortunately, WFOR and WPLG don’t really feed enough news. Not to mention, someone did something at CBS4, because i’ve lost my sources over there. As if they just dropped dead. So for now, I’m getting the majority of my insider scoop from WTVJ.

I’ll be on the prowl for more news outta the other three 😉

  5. Can someone tell me where was WTVJ’s original Downtown studio? Is the building still there, what was the address?

  6. the old address was 316 north miami ave. at the old wtvj property the miami courthouse build a building there. Its like the new tall blue looking glass building, very nice facility.
