  1. Wow – this is great news for a station that was considered so cash-strapped for so long.

Is the word that NBC is going to hang on to TVJ as an O&O for a while? It seems that way with the NBC+city branding and the removal of the hiring freeze. What a veeerrrrry strange year for TVJ!!

  2. They forgot:
    VP Of News and Content
    President & General Manager
Sr. Vice President & Station Manager

And all the way to the bottom…

  3. Reporter – $45,000 at WTVJ – $32,000 at WSVN
    Assistant News Director $105,000 – WTVJ – $95,000 WSVN

At least NBC pays better than Fox even if these salaries are pathetic. The old days of people like Jackie Nespral making $550,000, Paul Deanno making $250,000, Tony Segreto making $375,000 and Joel Conabel making $250,000 are gone.

    • $550K for Nespral vs. only $375K for Segreto is such a joke! Not sure what WTVJ sees in Nespral.

Don’t get me wrong, I think she’s OK, but she’s just not the powerhouse anchor that they think she is… and she’s just not worth $175K more a year than an icon like Tony Segreto.

  4. Are the salary estimates right for NBC6 and FOX7?
I earn more than that in market 49, a lot more.
I’m looking to return to South Florida but not sure if the stations can afford me.

  5. No reporter is making anywhere near that at 4 and 10. I wouldn’t trust salaries you see on an anon blog, Just 1 Station. Do some research yourself. Alex doesn’t work at a station and his sources have been wrong many times in the past. Just look at this blog’s archives.

    • My current sources, have never been wrong. I had one or two flubs with ONE source in TWO stories back in Summer of ’08. Hardly what i would call “many times.” I don’t work for a news station, but my sources do. Sheash

  6. I work at Channel 7 and they pay reporters around 40 thousand. We are the lowest paying station in South Florida. That’s how we hire so many people. Even Craig and Belkys don’t make much more than 250. If you’re looking for a high paying market, don’t come here. 6 has always paid a lot more. They are an NBC O&O and many of their people come from major markets. I know that guy Joel came from Los Angeles and Paul came from Philly. They shoul dbe making big salaries like that since they wouldn’t come to Miami for less money than where they were. Many of our reporters came from tiny markets, like Tyler Texas where you get paid 10 bucks an hour as a reporter.

  7. First of all…miami isnt a major market…

Second…80K is more than you will make in top 10 markets these days in this economy..so get used to it.

Third…reporters dont make 80 thousand in miami…unless they are veterans.

The average salary is around 60-65K.

Maybe those from the tiny tiny markets make less.

  8. Yes. I agree. Bob doesn;’t know what he is talking about. Here’s a general starting salaries for some major markets:

    New York – $135,000 – reporter
    Los Angeles – $125,000 reporter
    Chicago $102,000 – reporter
    Philadelphia – $96,000 reporter

That’s more than 8- thousand. Miami is a major market or at leats a big market, but Channel 7 has made it seem much smaller. Bad news managers at all the stations have lowered Miami down to a place where rerpoters are hired right out of college and paid nothing.

  9. Wow…”7 news” and the others here have no idea how the economy is changing reporter salaries.

All markets are bringing people in at union minimum or much lower salaries.

WUSA in Washington just hired a new one man band for 40K.

Reporters at KCBS in Los Angeles are coming in at 85K to start.

Those numbers are for previous hires. Not now.
