Early Show Surprises Maggie Rodriguez

9

In May ‘The Early Show’ surprised Maggie Rodriguez for their ‘Positively Prom Week’ segment with a performance by Gloria Estefan who appeared live from Maggie’s school ‘Our Lady of Lourdes’ in Miami.

Gloria sang a little bit of her song ‘Here We Are’ for Maggie and husband Mike.

Are they so cute or what!

Before I forget thanks to Brandon to sending the video

And here’s the whole segment from CBS News

  1. I’m not complaining here seeing how it’s related to Maggie. And I absolutely respect Gloria. But In general Miami hasn’t produced any other Musician to represent our city NBA Finals, World Series Opening the American Airlines Arena this lady & her 1 hit will follow me to my death!

  2. Is it me or do people from Miami have certian accents. It just seems to be standing out more opn TV to me now, like Magiie and all her Miami friends.

  3. Julian,

Us Miamians (if you will) do not have accents. The reason why Maggie and friends have an accent is because since their parents are Cuban, their primary language was Spanish. Then, they learned English. That was my situation, my first language was Spanish, and I have that accent.

  4. Maggie doesn’t have an accent at all. She sounds like she could be from any U.S. city. Kudos to her, btw, as she is a top journalist.

That said, there is definitely a “Miami accent”, if you will. There is a typical speech pattern when going from Spanish to English as a primary language. Listen to Phil Ferro, and to a lesser degree, Gloria Estefan, just to name a couple.

  5. I still have it myself. You can always notice Phil with it, because he worked at that Spanish station (Univision was it?) and you can notice it in his voice, and Gloria as well, a lot of her music was Spanish, obviously. I just speak English, except around family or in my Spanish class, and you can notice the accent in my voice. I guess we came up with a new name for it, “The Miami Accent” (:

  6. Dude, that is just scraping the surface. Lisette Gonzalez from CBS 4 has it, Maribel (sweet buns) Rodriguez from CBS 4. Phil Ferro’s accent sounds a bit more Colombian than anything. I knew of a girl named Angie who has an accent JUST like Phil Ferro. Otherwise, thats about all I can think of for now. That hot Miami accent is a turn on to us guys who love Hispanic women. With a sweet looking Hispanic woman, it’s always warmer inside. 🙂
