Struck me as odd how WPBF had news at 5, then left for half an hour to show Inside Edition then had news at 6. Now they’re adding a newscast at 5:30 starting September 13th. According to PBF’s PR release, the new newscast will be ” the smart alternative to fluff at 5:30″

WPBF News 25 Announces News Expansion
WPBF Channel 25 announces the launch of a full one-hour early evening newscast at 5 p.m. beginning Monday, Sept. 13, 2004.WPBF News 25 Tri-Anchor Team
WPBF Anchors Kristin Hoke, Tiffany Kenney and Lisa HaywardWith the additional 2½ hours of news Monday through Friday, WPBF News 25 will offer viewers on the Treasure Coast and Palm Beaches 90 minutes of nonstop news from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The new one-hour newscast will feature the tri-anchor team of Tiffany Kenney, Kristin Hoke and Lisa Hayward, along with weather specialist Mike Lyons.
Six o’clock anchor Jon Shainman will play an integral role in the broadcast each day, including a new segment called “5:25.” Jon will continue to anchor with Tiffany Kenney weeknights at 6 p.m. Lisa, Kristin and Tiffany also anchor the late newscast at 11 p.m.
WPBF News 25 will be the only station in the market offering a distinctive, full one-hour format of news at 5 p.m.. The newscast will deliver the day’s Big Story with more depth, along with more news that is relevant to viewers’ lives.
“It’s a newscast designed not to waste your time,” says WPBF News Director Joseph Coscia. “We will give viewers the smart alternative to fluff at 5:30. It will be as much a newscast of record as the 6 p.m. (newscast) every day, with the experience, professionalism and personality of a great anchor ensemble, a team of dedicated reporters and the most viewer-friendly weathercast in the market.”
WPBF News 25 introduced its “Where YOU Come First” slogan in April 2004, at the same time it launched the country’s only tri-female anchor team at 11 p.m. WPBF pledges to deliver the local weather forecast FIRST in every newscast. WEATHER FIRST gives viewers the current weather conditions and immediate forecast at the start of every newscast. And it’s designed to deliver more useful forecast information throughout each newscast.
“WPBF News 25 — Where YOU Come First” is a promise to be the local television news station that will be driven by what the viewers of the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast have told us they want in a local newscast. WPBF News 25 gives viewers news that’s relevant and meaningful to their lives. WPBF News 25 alerts them to scams and rip-offs, and News 25 is first to prepare and protect them in times of severe weather.
WPBF News 25’s also debuted the market’s newest and most advanced digital Doppler radar, calling it WEATHER FIRST RADAR. This new radar is 40 times more powerful, with greater range and sensitivity, and will provide data for more accurate forecasts and storm warnings.
WPBF TV Vice President and General Manager Victoria Regan says:
“We are excited about the direction we are taking, focusing on building our station around our viewers’ wants and needs. Our news expansion extends that promise to offer more news and more stories that affect the lives of our audience and their families.”
News Director Joseph Coscia, added:
“These are bold innovations that will distinguish and differentiate WPBF News 25 from the competitors in the marketplace. It’s the edge for people to identify and choose WPBF News 25 as their choice for local television news.”
