Merlo’s Menu and Lucho’s Lineup

CBS4.com has a new online feature, actually it’s not brand new it started March 31st I think. You could call it a video blog, it is a daily video from CBS4 managing editor Alissa Merlo or assignment editor Lucho Duran (?) giving a short preview of what stories CBS4 is working on for their newscasts.

And you get to hear what a crazy place the CBS4 newsroom is. Scanners chirping non-stop. So crazy, they must hear them in their sleep too. [CBS4.com video: Merlo’s Menu] /via Owenized/

  1. I watched it and it looks like a home movie. The woman in the clip seems startled at the beginning and says something like “are we on?” or something like that.

Why would a station that has expensive on air people who’s job it is to be on camera not be used? Why would you put someone on camera who clearly has no experience being on camera? It looks so amateurish. Is this what they win Emmy’s for?

A pimply faced 15 year old could of put that together. Couldn’t they get a reporter to do it?

Note to CBS4. Forget the “Youtube” look. You’re too far behind the curve on that one.

  2. obviously it’s meant to be conversational and relaxed
    not polished and whatver

it’s just a behind the scenes of the rundown by those who manage the news

there’s already a scripted webcast with on-air talent

  3. WBBM in chicago started “dan’s daily briefing” bout 6 months ago after the FOX station was doing that on their website.

  4. I think the feature is cool, although I do miss when they did “CBS 4 @ Your Desk.” KPIX-TV in San Francisco does “Brian’s Daily Briefing.” Brian is KPIX’s assignment editor, and I enjoy his reports. Merlo’s Menu is nice. I check it out every day.

  5. what a waste of resources. If they want to have an intern or writer blog the minutes of the morning meeting that’s one thing, but don’t waste a photog on that schlock.

  6. Well … one thing is for sure. I am an Assignment Editor & you do hear those scanners in your sleep, in the shower, in the car, ALL DAMN DAY …. MAKE IT STOP! Oh and my favorite … answering your cell or phone at home as if you were still at work. Yes, people tell me that my job is driving me crazy… they’re right.
