Howard Finkelstein, better known to most as the Howard in ‘Help Me Howard’, WSVN’s hugely popular newscast segment, is getting some well deserved praise.
The South Florida Times has a very nice story about him and his many efforts to assure that everyone has access to a public defender, but especially the poor and homeless who can’t afford high-powered lawyers. In recognition for those efforts on April 26th the League of Women Voters of Broward County awarded Finkelstein the Civics in Action award.
Finkelstein is “one of the original hippies” says Douglas Brawley Chief Assistant Public Defender of Mental Health adding “he’s about peace, love, equality for all people. He hasn’t sold out.”
And from the article it’s clear Howard is the real deal. He is the founder of the country’s first court for mentally ill defendants. He established Broward county’s drug court and after becoming the county’s Chief Public Defender in 2005 Finkelstein put measures in place that allowed defendants to spend more time with their public defenders where previously they were forced to decide their pleas after just a few minutes. As a long-time 7 basher, let me say this…Howard is a lawyer, a politician (he had to run for PD)and he’s on 7…should be 3 strikes, but if ever there was a textbook definition of “mensch,” Howard is it. You are a good man!

i am a 22 year old girl that was told that i had a hiv virus last june 17. i went thru 2 and a half months of terror me and my family went to a speilist in miami and he took more blood tests and said i never had hiv the doctors office had another girl that had blood taken and they must have switched labels we went back to that office and they never even found a record of this other girl i think i am entitled to be reinbused for all the suffering weight loss and terror i went thru. this office is resposible thanks and god bless

I live in Broward County they Placed my sewer hook-up at the front of my house on the wrong side. I called 954 831 3281 for 4 weeks and 954 831 0904 trying to have the hook-up placed on the correct side which I decribe on the pre surveys but their Draftman drew-up the plans showing it on the wrong side of the house I know last week they came out and fixed the house two doors next to me with the same problem. Can somebody up there give me an answer.

Help me Howard……I’m being charged for garbage pick up 2 times a week although I only put garbage out once a week and alot less garbage then the Waleed family down the street……….I’ve never seen so many empty bags of fertilizer as the Waleed family……….man, is their lawn gonna be green !
I have always voted. The last time I voted it cost me $12,236.00. I own a condo in Sunrise, Fl, I moved to Barefoot Bay, Fl and changed my voters card, Broward County sent me a property tax bill for the above amount which includes approximately half the amount in penalties & interest. Why would it take so many years to send me this letter? Do you think you can help me? I am retired.

I will like to thank Mr. Howard I realy think he is great and not only should he have his TV mintues they should give him more media time. others should learn from him he is a great example for society.helping others that do not have money and are not being treated equal.

Help me Howard. My family and I recently put a deposit on a house we were set to rent on august first. I had signed the lease but my boyfriend had not, he was to do so contingent upon the walk in we did today. Everything the landlord said would be fixed was not and it was all very sloppy. And not move in ready.We decided not to take the house and asked for our deposit back. The landlord who was there with his partner both of local properties llc said he would charge us for the fifteen days he took the house off the market. He refused to give me a copy of the unfinished (because it was not signed by both parties, and was in both our names) lease. He also refused to give back the true copies of my boyfriends pay stubs. I have taken photos of the condition of the house and of the license plates with both his and his partners vehicles. What can I do. We can’t afford to lose this money. I am pregnant and have two children one of whom is disabled. We have been staying with my mother waiting for this house. Please help us
