Brian Andrews Joins Colombia’s RCN Network

15

Four months after leaving WFOR CBS 4 for Colombia Brian Andrews has landed a permanent gig with Colombia’s largest TV network RCN.

He’ll produce a series called “Colombia through my eyes” and will be “basically driving all over the country for the next two months, stopping off in small towns along the way, telling unique stories”.

Also, in a few months Brian will begin anchoring “Colombia Now” RCN’s first daily English-language newscast.

He’s also freelancing for Al-Jazeera and says on his blog Colombia’s Semana Magazine is interested in a daily web-based English newscast.

  1. How long is it before this guy gets kidnapped by rebels or drug dealers and ends up featured on a youtube hostage tape?

  2. Kudos to Brian, i admire him 4 doing something not every America reporter does, now the people he interviewed probably were saying: “Gringo Loco!” but i hope he doesn’t get Kidnapped

  3. Reporting for Al Jazeera? Wow. Embedded with the enemy. Does anyone else have a problem with him doing that? Al Jazeera is not a news organization. They are a propaganda machine for terrorists. Brian should be put on a watch list immediately to keep him out of the country….and I mean America!

  4. I am sure Brian knows what he is doing (just check his resume). RCN-Colombia will take care of him (he is not the first American reporting from there and he won’t be the last one)… and in regards for Al Jazeera – he knows better not to step the boundaries just to get the story. I wish him the best. Way to Go Brian

  5. Heck of a guy, in so little time he has done alot down there. I congratulate him and glad to hear he’s even breaking some ground in Colombia with English media.
Some of you should probaly take a visit to Colombia and re-think your old Colombian image, its not the country it was 10 years ago, cities like D.C, Philly and Detroit are more dangerous than most Colombian cities
and Admin last I heard he had also been working with CBS in some way not sure if he continued with it.
anyway good luck to Brian, enjoyed wathing him here in Miami.

  6. Julian, you are totally right. If you check Brian’s interview (posted in his web site) to Colombia’s Ambassador to the United States, Carolina Barco, you will hear a comment from her that is similar to yours. I didn’t know that but I am sure Carolina Barco wouldn’t be making statements like that, if it wasn’t truth. Just check the news of what happened this past weekend in Chicago (I am sure or at least I hope this was only a nuisance – but never the less make you go uhmmm?.)

  7. Hey everyone. Thanks for all the nice words of encouragement.
It’s certainly different from what I left behind in Miami… and a real challenge. But it’s been the best thing I ever did. For me, the most important thing is how this whole experience has made me grow as a person. Yes, I’m still freelancing for CBS (did a piece for the evening news last month) and Al-Jazeera’s English channel. I have no problems with Al-Jazeera. I don’t report a story any differently for them than I would any other news organization. Anyway, thanks again for all of the positive thoughts! Brian in Bogota

  8. Brian – Colombia really is NOT the news….. but perhaps you haven’t traveled enough and are just in love with ‘being away.’ I live in Miami and didnt even know you left – but Colombia?? your dream?? “gringo in the city?” Some very respected journalists are going to be quite upset — real international correspondants speak FLUENT spanish if they are in Latin AmericaGringo in the city may be funny but it’s not real news. Que decepcion!
