WTVJ’s Chopper 6 is HD?

15

during the breaking news NBC6 just aired they had video from Chopper 6 that was if not full on HD at least 16:9. Nice

Some readers report they saw live reports also in HD, so right from the start NBC6 HD transition appears to be more than just 3 studio cameras broadcasting in hi-def

  1. That’s right some field reports from Today in South Florida were in HD as well but the news packages were in SD with the blue bars at each side…Now chopper 6 HD? wow….too bad i didn’t get to see it.

  2. Oh crap….yes, chopper 6 is totally HD Baby…i just happened to set my HD DVR to record 2minutes before EXTRA and it caught the Breaking news story and to me; it looked cristal clear HD.

  3. I don’t think the feild cameras are hd I just saw the Hank Tester live shot and it looked really bad. I think it is only 16×9 with there standard def cameras.

  4. Sorry for the typo. I don’t think the field cameras are hd I just saw the Hank Tester live shot and it looked really bad. I think it is only 16×9 with there standard def cameras.
Also not all the chooper shots where hd still 4×3.

  5. I don’t think Chopper 6 is totally HD yet. I think they have been instructed to shoot in 16 by 9 to give the appearance though.

  6. I also heard that with the HD, there are some anchor changes coming. Rumor here is that Joel Connable may anchor one newscast and DeMarco Morgan is going to anchor the 7 and 11 with Jackie. Management is calling Morgan the Dwight Lauderdale of WTVJ. I don’t know if Tony is out or if they are adding a newscast or what. We have seen Joel in our news directors office twice this week and DeMarco has been anchoring the 7 with Jackie which used to be a one anchor show.

  7. I like the live reports in HD, but why don’t they have pre-recored reports in HD also? They are in SD with the side bars.

  8. Watching the 6 PM News last night they still have some work to do. They did have some HD footage that was being shown in 4:3 with the curtains. There were about 3 or 4 segments where the pictures were squeezed into the 4:3 frame.

I suppose that’s what they’re experimenting with right now, making sure that their automation software is doing what it’s supposed to be doing, which they don’t seem to have right yet.

  9. The chopper is not in HD yet. They are having problems with the camera on the chopper. We don’t have any HD field cameras yet and even if we did, the editing equipment is not HD yet.
