Woo HOO! Go WTVJ!
Insider reports from SVN that HD switch and new GFX are scheduled for September. On an unrelated note, heard Joel Connabbe is leaving NBC6 for New York, possibly MSNBC.
No… where did you hear that?
september?
far.out.
whdh is trying for the summer before the olympics maybe they’re focusing on them more?
love it! and the radar looks amazing!
i don’t think SVN is switching until Sep. (and if they were, well that SUCKS!) first of all SVN has been airing promos in HD that’s a good start for testing their technologies, second; now that TVJ risk it all until today to push the magical HD switch i believe they noticed these changes at SVN and that’s why the guys @ TVJ when for it and not next week (don’t u guys think they’re watching their competitors) it was now or never to become the first in south florida to go HD with only their in-studio cams only in HiDef, we (the viewers) were not attacked with cool HD promos from TVJ, not even the anchors mentioned anything about it; just the VO, so lets hope with all the respect you deserve “SOFLA News Guy” are wrong, and lets enjoy for what we have now to what we call the only newscast in HD.
I’m glad that WTVJ is FINALLY in HD with their local news, however, isn’t WPTV in West Palm Beach considered to be in South Florida also? The WPB channel has been in HD for many months now. Don’t they count?
John, good point. Although some insist only Miami-Dade is the real South Florida 😀
Today was not the real HD launch. It was the launch of the automated rundown control system where you don’t need as many people to produce the shows. The launch of HD officially will be a “soft launch” as they called it during meetings next Wednesday. They will mention something about it. I have heard that we will be doing stories on the HD and digital transition on Monday or Tuesday.
In South Florida fashion, NBC6 once again accomplished a feat before anyother SoFlo station, just like it did in the early days and all the way up to today.
NBC6 already began their “soft launch” days ago — maybe even last week– by producing news cut-ins in HD and with the new APC system (automated production control). There won’t be any official mention of the HD until next week, but they’ve already begun in High Definition. Look tonight on the CW News at 10, and also with South Florida Tonight at 11.
Today was the first full newscast in High Definition.
Congrats on the WTVJ HD! You will not want to watch SD ever again
after the first day of seeing it!
What has been done in Central Florida, is, you will see 3 levels of video.
-HD from the studio and for weather. I hope they have HD Vipir, it is really stunning to see (WFTV and WTVT have it up here). Also in HD will be the super big stories, and if the engineering is real brave, a story from the news chopper (vulture):-) on a rare occasion.
-Wide screen (not stretched) 480 for most of the local stories.
-Standard def with bars from other sources.
As time passes, the local promos will be in HD then more and more 480 wide screen and HD stories.
(I also note that 12 in WPB does the weather in standard def?-odd).
Happy watching!!
wehenever i watch wftv ed, most of their stories arent in hd, where on wesh, the majority of their field reports are in hd
You won’t see stories in HD yet. They have to shoot on HD cameras first and edit on HD capable equipment. NBC doesn’t have that yet. ONly tv shows, live shots and the anchor people will be seen in HD along with the weather graphics
Congrats to NBC6 for being the first station in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale to go HD for local news.
However, they sure aren’t the first in South Florida. At least 3 stations in the West Palm Beach market (channels 5, 12 and 29) have been HD for a long time. Not sure about 25 since I can’t pick it up on my antenna.
Today in South FL is in HD. They went to live shot at Miami PD. It was HD ( didnt look stretched) the package was SD.
Ive been spoiled by watching NY news and WPTV in HD.(thanks directv) Its been hard to watch stretch-o-vision down here. im glad TVJ is in HD!!!
Today Hank Tester reported from the Gusman Center in Downtown Miami in HD!
