in the many years that have past since katrina came ashore at deerfield beach pier I have had the hardest time locating video, even still photo, coverage of that day. I surfed deerfield beach pier for 5-6 hours as the storm surged up until dusk then moved on to boca inlet. my mo was to run and jump into the huge shore break @ the pier, within 10 mins, 3-4 good rides, I was already down the beach getting out at the coral heads on the beach at the pink condos (aka no trespass) as if they could ever get me out of the water. I then half ran half sailed using my board to get across the beach and onto the boardwalk. tucking my board I then jogged upwind. under several of the tiki huts were film crews. having surfed many a florida hurricane I knew cameras were rolling when the lites were on so I would jog between the foul weather journalists, brave in their own right, and the ocean often holding up a peace or hang loose sign and saying “ja rule” as I passed. i counted apprx. 5-6 film crews along the way including one crew on the north side of the pier under the protection of restaurant patio. I know there has to be some footage out there that I may be in. there were 6-8 other foul-weather surfers doing the same as I.
can you provide or direct me to a solid source for archives of this “what is it like inside a washer machine-sand blasting surf” ? please & thank you.
