TV veteran Peter D’Oentch is joining WFOR. He was a reporter at WPLG for over 15 years until the station began transitioning away from 5pm news in 2004 when he was transfered to a producer position after which he left for a job in Nashville. D’Oench’s first day on the air at WFOR is Labor Day.
Good for WFOR! Looks like they are hiring experience again under the new regime.
They just need to make sure that he’s not allowed to do anything on camera.. just use his voice and scripts, but keep him off-camera.
Whatever smashmouth!! Peter is great. I guarantee he’ll be schooling the competition and PLG from day one. Lets go back to the days of hiring experienced journalists. That is what it should be about in a market this size.
He’s only been in Nashville for a few months. I wonder if he broke a contract or was freelance or didn’t have a contract.
D’oench is a pro – quality journalist and nice to everyone around him.
Welcome back Peter and go kick PLG’s butt!
Smashmouth…
Yeah, the Miami TV stations have really been well served by hiring pretty people who don’t know the difference between the mayor of Miami and the mayor of Miami-Dade.
Why should a guy with some age and lots of experience be hired as a reporter who actually knows news and how to report it? Who needs that?
TV stations can’t win. I say good for 4’s new ND! She obviously gets it.
it ain’t her making these decisions, newspro. wake up and smell the toilet.
hm… Tom Doer(formally of wplg) hires Peter D’oench (formally of wplg)… this is not the new ND’s hire, its just anotheer step for Doer to create the old WPLG he remembers
maybe they can dust off ann bishop!?
D’oench was cast away to the WPLG 10 assignment desk (their version of Siberia), where Alissa Merlo, the News Assignment Manager was (also now at WFOR). They keep losing their “behind the camera” talent from news, sales, and promotions.
yeah, and for a station that’s all high and mighty, they have reporters with ZERO experience like that blonde cheerleader ashley whatshername? ann bishop is rolling in her grave…
Yeah. Glenna Milberg, Rad Berky, Michael Putney, Jeff Weinsier, Laurie Jennings, Dwight Lauderdale, Don Noe, Roger Lohse. Bunch of rookies.
Don’t forget Charles Perez and Kellie Butler. Or in sports and weather Jimmy Cefalo and Max Mayfield.
Ch 10 has some great people but what “huh” was trying to say is when you hire a bubblehead cheerleader it discredits everyone else.
So if your a cheerleader your not intelligent or smart.
That is really showing your ignorance ftlviewer and huh.
What’s wrong – you or yours can’t make the squad and be smart and intelligent, so you have to bash the ones that can. Get a life! There are other blonds at 10 are they bubbleheads too. What about the ones who rise to the top because they have plastic boobs! Go back to sleep.
ftlviewer:
So let me get this straight.
CHEERLEADER = BUBBLEHEAD
Do you know Ashley? Do you know any of the Miami Dolphin cheerleaders? In years past there have been Doctors, Optometrist, Lawyers, Dental Hygienist, Business Woman and lots of students earning an education while on the squad.
I am sure there are people at 10 that are indeed “bubbleheads” and NOT cheerleaders. There are plenty of young ladies on air in this market with blonde hair (or brown hair for that matter) and fake boobs that are indeed “bubbleheads” and have proved it on air over the past few years and to my knowledge are NOT cheerleaders.
I don’t think you can make such an assumption without knowing your facts or the people involved. Please drop your stereotype and open up your shallow way of thinking.
We don’t have to assume your ignorance because you show your lack of intellegence clearly by what you type on this site.
Gotta love it! Only in Miami would people be debating the merits of a cheerleader as a journalist.
ashley is not a journalist, she plays one on tv.. she has never had a job before this one, no professional job at all. In fact, she never had any interest in doing news reporting at all. She did not study journalism, she has not even done an internship . She was recruited by the GM who thought her eyes were beautiful when he met her with her husband who happens to be a ch. 10 meteorologist. Ashley has been going out on stories with veteran reporters who explain the basics to her while she is getting paid a reporter salary. Ashley is still in the process of figuring out what she wants to do with her new college degree, when this job fell into her lap.
Have you taken the time to get to know Ashley? Maybe you should before you go passing judgement. Have you asked her if she had a job before? I know she has. You know why -because I’ve talked to her. I took the time to find out – did you? Sounds like you are a jealous WPLG employee. She is a very sweet and compassionate person who has not been given the time of day from most of your WPLG employees. And you veteran reporters who don’t help or teach her anything – what kind of journalist are you anyway. Would you want to be treated like that? You don’t know what you are talking about she was an intern – there at WPLG. DUH! You can’t tell me if you were offered a job at WPLG several times that you wouldn’t take it. Is it her fault that management wanted her to work there? Evidently they saw something in her that you haven’t taken the time to see. If your going to be angry you should be at management not her. And excuse me, but all of us were rookies once – so why dont you lay off.
Whoever “the deal” is has hit the nail on the head.. That is precisely the case. As for “your nuts,” that’s exactly what you are.. nuts. In market 16, veteran reporters don’t get paid to babysit and teach rookies. Get real! No offense to this young lady but she is wayyyyyyyyyyy out of her league. Stick to the pom poms.
