One tipster says WFOR is abandoning the if it bleeds it leads.
No more details but if true it should be an interesting development to watch whether it helps or hurts them.
WPLG supposedly have decreased the junk in their newscasts, I haven’t watched enough to tell, but it seemed like they did whenever I tuned them in.
Well, what format would they go to? What station doesn’t do use the “if it bleeds, it leads” format? What station hasn’t always done that? Plus, Ch4 doesn’t have enough bench strength when it comes to reporters smart enough to handle more sophisticated stories. Hell, half of em’ probably can’t remember their own zip code.
The change is obvious. Look at what they’ve led with at 11 the last few nights — decent investigations by top reporters, Gary Nelson and Brian Andrews.
@BobbieB…. true true… recent news meeting and one WFOR female reporter asked a question, “who is Boris Yeltsin?”…. sometimes it just boggles the mind….
Anon, I think some people think I am being cynical or insulting, but I am not. Most of the people who they choose to report the local news aren’t smart enough to tell me anything. It takes no brains to describe a car wreck or to repeat what you read in a police report. It does take brains to give stories perspective (i.e. histortoical background) for stories.
To not know who Boris Yeltsin is proves my point. I doubt she knows who Vladimir Putin is either. I doubt she knows the name of the Mayor of Miami. However, that reporter probably does know something about the latest restaurants and clothing stores on South Beach though.
Now Anon, as a service to the public you must reveal the stupid reporter’s name so we can avoid her reports on the basis she is dumb.
Did anyone laugh when she asked the question? I would guess not because most of the staff probably didn’t know either.
I understood the response to be stone cold silence….
as for the name, going to hold on to that one for a while..
Well the only way to develop a strong bench of hard news reporters, in my view, is to throw them into the fire and let them get burned over and over, until they learn. I hope 4 does go to a hard news format. We badly need that alternative in this market.
