7’s Adam Williams will be moving to WHDH in Boston at the end of this month. He will be a weekend mornings anchor and reporter 3 days of the week.
Adam is the third WSVNer to join WHDH in recent months. Sports reporter Larry Ridley moved to WHDH two months ago and before him Nichelle King also made the jump to market #5 to co-anchor the morning weekend evening newscasts.
Thanks to everyone for the tips
Nichelle actually moved to anchor weekend EVENINGS. Adam will be solo weekend morning anchor
Isn’t he this already at SVN??
He is a class act guy and deserves all the best. Congrats Adam.
Soon WSVN will be left with nothing much to look at. It almost like SVN is the step or bastard child. WHDH is getting all the cool toys will WSVN gets the the unwanted.
That Sucks
actually, adam will have a co-anchor in boston. WHDH has a two anchor newscast even on weekend mornings.
adam will most likely have a co-anchor here in boston. 7news(whdh) has had many departures and they are rotating between new and old reporters to co-anchor the weekend mornings and evenings!
That’s too bad. Adam handles everything with such class; one of the reasons I enjoyed watching 7. Congrats Adam and Good Luck!
What I just can’t seem to understand is why they keep tossing these reporters to the sister stations, if I’m not mistaken, that new guy, forgot his name, and Vannessa Malina, I think they are both from WHDH. Can’t understand the factor…
Correction: Vannessa Medina
Don Guevara? He didn’t come from WHDH. He came from Orlando
Craig Stevens worked at WHDH but no other ‘SVNers have been up in Beantown. Usually when you land at market N5 you dont want to go back to N17 🙂
WSVN is more like the red headed step child of Sunbeam, it gets just enough love so it doesn’t throw a hissy fit and run from home 😀
Vanessa also came to 7 from Orlando
Vanessa worked at WKMG, Orlando. Before that, I think she worked in Indiana or something.
Oh ok, thanks for clearing that up… But Admin, quick question, I am a 13 y.o that wants to be a news reporter when I grow up, what is a N5 and N17, I have no earthly idea what that means…
Brandon,
Choose a noble profession and make your parents proud. Don’t become a vacuous TV reporter.
umm if im not mistake wouldn’t his parents be proud that he is following his dream job? I know im currently going to school to become a journalist and my parent couldn’t be more proud that im following my dream.
doesent the n5 mean market # 5(whdh/wlvi) and n17 meaning market 17(wsvn)?
BobbieB,
Thanks for the tip, although I am making my parents proud by choosing the proffesion of becoming a journalist, it has always been my dream, since I was 6, to be exact. I was at the Bahamas, and I folded up a piece of paper, and used that as a microphone. It’s amazing at how at such a young age, I knew what I wanted to do with my life. lol.
micheal,
Thanks for the encouragement.
AJ, what is a market though?
duh me
Indeed, N5 would be #5 … My brain isn’t so good at switching to and from English
In Europe we don’t use # – just N or No.
#17 is WSVN (Miami/Fort Lauderdale) yes
Brandon – a market is just a term for the area that stations serve, also used by Nielsen to rank the markets based on total households and issue ratings. Also called DMA, think it stands for Designated Market Area
Brandon,
Don’t confuse journalism with what you see on TV news. The two rarely intersect. Wanting to speak in front of a microphone could mean a lot of things.
Can you rap?
God Bobbie B.. Just leave the kid alone. If he wants to be a journalist than let him be it. He is only 14 years old. Quit being such a smart ass to him
Go for it Brandon!
Also, Boston DMA has slipped to number 7 now..
one of the first things if you want to be a journalist…learn to spell.
good god what is with you people.. The Kid is 14. Leave him the hell alone.
i just wanted to tell brandon that im 15 and also wanted to become a jounalist since i was about 6-7 years of age! i also want to become a tv-meteorologist as a secondary career and camera for a tv station for a possible third career.
Micheal,
I appreciate the defense thanks for that.
BobbieB,
No, I cannot rap lol, but yeah nice try.
Why,
I don’t know where it is I mispelled but I do know how to spell properly, thank you very much.
Admin,
Thanks for clearing it up, it was clouded, but all clear now! 😉
Hey Brandon I don’t know if you are 14 or not. This is the Internet after all. Do you karaoke?
And Michael, I meant what I said, TV news is not about journalism. You obviously are a viewer and have never been in the business. It’s not sarcasm. It’s fact. News Directors hate the word and using it in a TV newsroom is a quick route to the weekend overnight shift. TV news is about attracting viewers and that is something you’ll never get on the tube, the truth.
i dont care what you ment. You came of as an ass to a 14 year old kid. There was NO EXCUSE for that.
Mr. Bobbie are u affraid Mr. Brandon will become competition for u in the future???
Brandon – I am 20 and have wanted to be a reporter like u since I was 4. I met Bob Mayer, Kelly Craig, Bob Weaver and Tony Segreto when I was 8. Since then I’ve toured every news station and after 9/11 when I saw the real meaning of journalism (not what Mr. Bobbie was refering to) i knew i was going to pursuue it. My advice to u – dont listen to Bobbie and people like him. Sure news directors might have a different idea of what journalism is but you’ll deal with it. Take TV production in high school – they’ll teach u all about markets and stuff like that. If u live in Broward try to get involved with BTN (Broward Teen News) it gives u real reporting experience and a portfolio before u even get to college. Im sure u know this from reading this site already, but it is very competative. I would suggest getting a Bachelors degree in communications and a masters in something else u like just as much. Im working on a masters in education, because TV is getting tighter and tighter and u never know what will happen in the future. BUT DO NOT LET GO OF YOUR DREAM!!
Ok, and a note on the original subject… 🙂 I’m sad to see Adam go… The good ones never stay, huh? Well, better for him anyway…
Bobbie,
I only Karaoke in the shower thank you very much. lol
David,
Thanks for the ideas, but in the high school I am planning on going to, does not offer TV Production 🙁 However, I am doing the closest thing to it, Theater Production.
I’d like to thank all my supporters out there! lol
Also, I’m sorry Admin for changing the topic on this blog, how soon it changes from Adam to Brandon.
damn bobbieb you a tough crowd!
Brandon,
No worries bud, but if you get in the biz you’ll need a thicker skin than some on this post. I think your story is more interesting than this Adam guy going to Boston anyway. Become the reporter that shames the half-wits on TV today and make us all proud.
Hey Michael, use a spell checker it’s free and will camoflauge your illiteracy. Your name is also a proper noun so you might want to capitalize it.
great come back buddy..Im done with this fool.
Brandon,
Ignore Bobbie B. TV journalism is a great profession. You can bring attention to problems in communities, help victims of crimes, expose corruption, police brutality, and report on issues that affect people.
-You may want to begin your career by joining your student newspaper.
-Get good grades and stay focused. Read the newspaper everyday.
-Choose a college that best fits your goals. You may want to joing the college newspaper or the local campus tv station.
-Get some internships. Save up some money because you most likely won’t get paid. Make sure you put a resume tape together while you’re interning.
-Mail out your tape. Do “folo up” calls.
-You may have to launch your career in a small market and work your way up to a big market. But some stations, even in big markets, are hiring people with little or no experience.
Last, good luck. Remember, you will always come across hateful, cynical people, like Bobbie B. Ignore them. Reach for the stars!!!
-The Truth
Brandon, good for you buddy! I would add two suggestions. First, read lots of newspapers–take advantage of the internet so you can sample some excellent writing from all around the world, not just this country. The NY Times website is great, ad you should check the Atlanta Constitution and the St. Pete Times, two of my faves. ALso, check the internet for localized bad news. What I mean is, for example, when the tornadoes hit Central Florida, the TV Stations in the area were streaming thier coverage online. Most of that you should ignore, but try to look for the newspeople who are clearly thinking fast on teir feet in very poor conditions. You may pick up some ideas that way too.
|If people who care and have a brain stay in journalism, they can change the world. Good luck to you.
Michael,
You are the one that can’t compose a single sentence that rises above the level of first grade grammar, so maybe you should be more cautious in using the word fool. I can tell you with all degree of certainty that I know much more about what I speak than you do. I can follow up my viewpoints with specific points of fact that occur every day. You are probably just a wanna be who sits on the couch all day watching the tube surrounded by empty beer bottles and Doritos bags.
Bobbie B. this is the last time im going to respond to you on this subject, because you are not wroth my time. You basically told a 14 year old kid that His dream job is pointless and That it wouldn’t make his parents proud. In my eyes you step over a line. I am not no wanna be person. I work in real estate and going to school for Political Science and a minor in Journalism. From this point on you can say what ever you would like in this tread about me but i well not be responding to you.
I concur, enough of BobbieB. There is a place for a person of your intellect in the Bush White House.
ccc229, Very Funny!!!
I’d like to thank all my fans out there! If you would like to contact me, just e-mail me to brlop426@yahoo.com
Admin, I am aware that alot of spamers are on here, it’s ok, I’ll just delete them all!
I’m so happy that I have played a big role on this blog, thanks to all who are giving me the moral support I need!
The Bush White House! I’d be honored. Thanks for the compliment.
Michael,
You need not respond to this. But I am serious and not being “cynical”. If you are a journalism minor you need to be able to write. Wouldn’t you agree? Sorry if that offends you.
i support brandon 110%. keep your dream going!
Thanks alot AJ!
back to Adam Williams…he’s hot and will be missed
He was a great reporter for WSVN, I hope he does well, wherever he may go!
Lol. You people are losers fighting over a little kid that is only 14.
If you came on this blog to speak about Adam Williams then keep focus on the topic and chill out with the child.
