  1. Telemundo-51’s new “Casa” is extremely over-populated with TV monitor wallpaper, especially when they cut to an anchor’s OTS shot. Perhaps they should reconsider changing the TV monitor wallpaper and adding a glass pane with designs of swooshes with the “T” logo, etchings of the state of FL (or south florida), or a distorted amplified map of the world etched on the glass panes with real TV monitors behind them (like WESH-TV in Orlando).

WPLG-Channel 10 uses diffused window panes over their monitors behind the anchors and it looks fabulous. Channel 51 should try using a diffused glass pane behind the anchor desk. The way T-51 has set up their monitors makes it throw off the viewer when a control room employee is walking or standing behind the anchor desk. For Channel 51’s 11:30 a.m. newscast it looks good because it gives the impression of a “working” control room, but the classic 6 and 11 o’clock newscasts should have their “in-studio-only” moment.

Channel 51 posted new pictures of their set on their website (telemundo51.com) and I was looking forward to seeing their balcony. It looks like another “spiral-stair-case-gone-news-heaven”, since no reporter seems to fit on that balcony. I’ll have to switch over to Channel 7’s newsplex to see balcony shots. Telemundo-51 should consider placing a real-life balcony for stand-ups. Perhaps, the reporter can be on the balcony and his/her OTS can be angled towards the robotic cameras and the working newsroom. I happen to think that NBC-6 and T-51’s duopoly newsroom, where the two news channels have their sets at both ends of the facility, can have so many “working-newsroom” shots, when they go to break, toss to reporters, etc. Channel 6 employs the habit very well with Jackie Nespral’s solo newscast at 11 o’clock. T-51 should work their 11 o’clock newscast using the same habits their english sister station implements.

Overall, I am very happy for Channel 51 and above all amazed that South Florida’s best meteorologist, John Morales, finally has his own Weather center, titled “Zona Meteorologica.” Also, their area for stand-up location where they toss packages or report on sports looks really high-tech with those widescreen monitors. Is Paula Bukuwinski working at T-51 or ESPN’s Sportscenter? lol

Now, I hope administration considers changing their graphics, or at least their fonts.

Am I asking for too much? Besides, I’ve been a loyal Channel 51 viewer since their groundbreaking 2-women anchor, with Leticia Callava and Alina Mayo Azze….wow…back….way back in the day.

  2. Don’t tell me you think Boobs Mcgee, Elita Loresca is a real weather person. She has a produer put everything together for her. She’s just a pretty face. If you put her in a real weather city, she would miss every forecast.

  3. I’ve just watched the 6pm newscast, they apparently returned to the newsroom since the weekend. I emailed them about it.. I’ll have the reply posted here.
