I could be late but it’s the first I seen of him at the top of the 4pm newscast today.
His name’s Don Guevara, previously worked at Central Florida News 13 in Orlando – came off bit aggressive in the live shot but nothing over the top. And easy on the eyes too 😉
actually admin…his name is Donald Bendz and he came from Central Florida News 13. Once again,WSVN, the laughing stock in tabloid journalism, has re-named their reporters to pander to the hispanic demographic. Pretty sad i must say….
he looks like he is 12, should be doing middle school a/v club
Thank you Sean! This obsession with all things 7 is deeply troubling. 7 as always is news presented for those who are illiterate in English and/or Spanish. While there are exceptions, it is very much amateur hour.
Hopefully ch7 will let this guy use the company flowbee for his afro!!! Get a haircut dude!!
we all know the truth about 7, some people like it some people dont. I agree with you guys but I dont think that everytime something is posted about 7 we should all get on and start bashing it.
Fine, if the pollyannas don’t get on and praise it, I won’t bash it. Liking 7 has nothing to do with its lack of credibility, largely due to the fact it pays less than any other station in the market. Much like Fox News, its competition is not CNN, but more properly Comedy Central. No serious adult really goes to 7 for news of significance.
How is WSVN tabloid journalism?
Overall, Ch. 7 covers the same news as the other stations. SVN is accurate and fair. Sometimes they present their news in an entertaining way. At least it’s not boring.
Take a look at their packages and you’ll see they’re right on point.
And no, I don’t work at WSVN.
miamiwatcher, if you can’t see the mateurishness of 7, then you are their target audience. God forbid you should watch 30 minuts of television and not be entertained. So enjoy the assclowns.
I wouldn’t necessarily call 7 tabloid journalism but they definitely talk to the viewer as if we’re a bunch of idiots. WSVN has too many anchors and reporters who TALK LOUDLY (as if that will enhance their credibility) and have a bad habit of trying to make every story sound like the President has just been shot! Not everything is urgent, guys. And it is an absolute joke watching Lynn Martinez talk about her boobs on Deco Drive and then 2 seconds later, she’s trying to ad-lib about a serious breaking news story during the news. Comparing 7 to the other stations is like comparing the porn industry to Hollywood. They seem 2nd rate and hokey.
see the fun of Deco Drive is that they dont take them selfs seriously. I love Seeing Two sides of Lynn. The FUN and funny side than the serious news anchor. You can relate to her better imo.
Michael my thoughts exactly
ccc229 nothing against you, but must you repeat the same thing about 7 in every post that mentions them?
You are entitled to your opinion but don’t you think it’s kind of silly to assume anything about their audience? Unless you’ve seen polls/studies done and know something I/We don’t of course
I’d like to know which station/s in South Florida make their news for people literate in english/spanish so I can watch it since English is my third language and I constantly have issues speaking/writing it? Please do tell
Must I see the same people oohing and aahing for every new graphic on 7? Thanks for staying neutral admin. I’ve lived here my whole life and 7 has always been second- or third-rate, from Wayne Fariss to Rick Sanchez and Sally Fitz through today. Incidentally, Deco Drive is not a news show. If Michael can’t see the difference, think of replacing Brian Williams with Mary Hart. If you think Deco Drive is a model news program, we have the problem in a nutshell. Go back and see why quality people like Denise White left 7 years ago. The shoddy product on the screen speaks for itself. Maybe if news directors had some journalistic integrity and stopped leaning on half-assed audience research, our area would have a quality news operation. I have said before and I’ll say again, Channel 6 from sunrise until about noon is the way news should be. The anchors know what they are talking about and when an error is made, Bob Mayer is usually the one to catch it immediately. Google the owner of 7 someitme. Ed Ansin is at the core of what has always been wrong with 7. |He should stick to real estate and get out of broadcasting.
Could you imagine seeing Brian Williams talk about Iraq on the nightly news and then anchor Extra? Would you take him seriously when he talks about life and death? We want an expert to anchor the news, not a tabloid host. Why not just have Louis Aguirre start anchoring the news as well?
CC i can tell the differences. I watch deco Drive because its a fun and funny show. It is a Local Entertainment Show. ITs not suppose to be a news show its suppose to be an ENTERTAINMENT SHOW. Also the reason why i watch 7 news is because I do not want to send 30 mins of my life watching a very dull new cast. I like 7’s Interaction. 7 has the same news as every other Station does in Miami. NOW if you want to talk about tablod trash or Lying to your newsveiwer than you should watch FOX NEWS Channel cause that is all they do. As for Ed Ansin, im glad he runs his channels the way he does because if he didn’t i know he would lose one viewer here. and BJ maybe if Brian Williams showed alittle bit of humor he would attach the younger generation.
heres an interesting quote from Anderson Cooper that i found.
Describing his philosophy as an anchor, Cooper has said:
“I think the notion of traditional anchor is fading away, the all-knowing, all-seeing person who speaks from on high. I don’t think the audience really buys that anymore. As a viewer, I know I don’t buy it. I think you have to be yourself, and you have to be real and you have to admit what you don’t know, and talk about what you do know, and talk about what you don’t know as long as you say you don’t know it. I tend to relate more to people on television who are just themselves, for good or for bad, than I do to someone who I believe is putting on some sort of persona. The anchorman on The Simpsons is a reasonable facsimile of some anchors who have that problem.”[3]
Sounds to me alot like WSVN.
is Anderson Cooper really somebody worth quoting?
I think so. I think he is a very intellegent man. I would one day love a career like he has now.
You have proven my point. WSVN is exactly for someone of your “intellegence.” I will stay with journalists who challenge my “intelligence.” How someone can talk about interplay on 7 boggles the mind. 7 is Fox News Channel, top to bottom. Anyone good escapes…Robb Hanrahan, Pam Giganti, Laurie Jennings, shall I go on? Belkys and Lynn Martinez go nowhere because no one wants them. Amateurs. I predict Vanessa Ruiz will be next to escape. She is that good, and deserves better.
My intellegence? Who you are to question my intelligence by what i watch? Like i said before I do not want to sit there and watch something dull. I watch something thats going to Keep my attention. If i want Serious News than i well watch MSNBC or CBS.
Whoever said WSVN is accurate and fair either works there or doesn’t know any better. I don’t mean to be cynical, but local news is not about journalism or accuracy. The last debate news management wants to have is over accuracy or any mention of the word journalism.
hey admin did you get my email about the new reporter joining 7?
Michael I did and I thought I blogged it but I guess it didn’t make it past the cached version in Windows Live Writer. Thanks for reminding and sending it I’ll put it up now
I think that Don is a very good reporter. I see big things in his future. Im sure Tom Brokaw was not perfect when he started.
