As mentioned earlier on this blog, Lonnie Quinn is leaving NBC6. He’s moving somewhere in the Northeast to be closer to his family.
Ryan Phillips is taking over the morning meteorologist job
Quinn’s last day at WTVJ is Thursday January 11th.

Good Luck Lonnie! I am happy to have Ryan Phillips on every morning. He’s a great choice! Too bad he will not be able to maintain the weekend morning’s segment too as he is a great team to Kelly Craig.

umm can i ask why not promote tina to the mornings and put ryan as tina replacement. Also why doesn’t pam do Today in South Fl?
I agree with both of you, but Ryan is coming over because Trina is already on the 10am show, and has a smaller role on the earlyprogram as well. Ryan is great, but I will miss him as the perfect foil for Miss Kelly. Also, Lonnie is going to WCBS2 in NYC. I e-mailed 6 directly and chastised them for leaving out this detail, but they said the contracts were not finalized yet. Guess Lonnie really wanted out. Or his wife to be. Could this be another Nick Saban situation?
Lonnie will regret this move..CBS 2, in NY, has a long history of hiring talent with the expectations of numbers. You don’t bring in the numbers, out you go. I grew up in NY and they are just not loyal to their people. CBS2 epitomizes the cut throat, backstabbing part of this business.

Big mistake to head to WCBS Lonnie!..They have a well known reputation, 20 years of talent turn over. Just ask Angele Rae of CBS 4. WCBS 2 has no loyalty to their people. If you don’t bring ion the numbers your gone, period. Just within this past year alone they have lost NY news veteran Roz Abrams, Mario Bosquez,Michael Pomerantz,Shon Gables,Cindy Shu,Lynda Lopez, Audrey Puente,Jim Ryan..etc etc. and they wonder, WCBS 2 why they always finish last in the ratings..Good Luck Lonnie! sadly I think you may need it.

I rarely delete comments, but I would delete posts if someone asks me to or if I don’t like what’s being said – truth or not.
I didn’t touch yours though, I was upgrading WordPress and forgot to upgrade the database so if anything disappeared that may be why.
Also do not change your email address, real or fake, since that’s how the blog software knows to let your comment show. If you change your comment will go in the que for approval along with all the spam and most likely would end up erased unless I notice it.
When enough money is thrown at you to work in the #1 market, you jump at the chance.

On his final show Lonnie made it clear that he will commute between south Florida and his new town; he was vague about where he was going (NY or LA). it was obvious that he wanted to stay, but that money will help his son someday. He also mentioned that Kelly Craig will be co hosting the show from now on. Hooray!
It’s too bad Lonnie is leaving. Even though I prefer the babes giving me the weather, Lonnie was entertaining. Besides I always prefered 6 for the news (7 for the boobs) so if Lonnie came on I didn’t mind. Good luck Lonnie!
It’s a shame the way WCBS (New York City, NY) treats their news personalities. IMO, WCBS pretty much earns the title… “CBS’s Crown Jewel of Bad Newscasts.”
It was thought that WTSP (Tampa-St. Petersburg, FL) and WUSA (Washington, DC) were train-wrecks, news department wise. WTSP having an all fluff news presentation… WUSA canning several of their veteran news personalities like they did.
I believe WCBS has decided to can Cindy Hsu. Rumor has it that John Slattery, Lou Young, and Roz Abrams could and might be next in line to walk the plank too. Cindy and Roz, along with Dana Tyler are very liked by a lot of viewers. Lately, WCBS has really mistreated Cindy and Roz, which a lot of their viewers really disapprove of. If Roz is to be canned, I could see her either going back to her CNN roots… or her WABC roots. If Dana is to be canned eventually, then that would really be the last nail in CBS’s coufin.

Lonnie has always wanted to go to NYC. S Fla was a stepping stone. Most news people want to go there… it’s the #1 market with more chances at going National.
Lonnie Quinn was a breath of fresh air and is already greatly missed. We can all be replaced in our positions, but sometimes, just knowing we made a difference to someone makes our difficult decisions easier. Lonnie, I loved your boyish humor, sort-of poking fun at ourselved for taking our lives so seriously. Thanks for the comfort in the AM’s at at the local races. Patty O’

I for one will really miss Lonnie – I loved the quirky sense of humor and seeing you around town- a real person. I think NBC6 should try to get you back here – I know he will come back! we miss you already. In a short time Lonnie became an important generous part of our community and he really seemed to enjoyed it. New York might be bigger- but we are better!
Trina is doing weekend weather untill thy find a replacement for Ryan Phillips who took over Lonnies spot on weekday mornings.
i sure do miss you in the morning, i would have to be at work at 7am and love waking up to your humor in the morning, wish you all the luck you and your family.
