Former WTVJ anchor John Hambrick who anchored on WCIX/WTVJ from 1985 until 1993 has been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. According to Cleveland.com Hambrick, 73, got the diagnosis earlier this year and the cancer has spread from his lungs throughout his body, and his brain.
WTVJ hired John Hambrick in 1985 to from WNBC to replace Ralph Renick who had retired that year. Hambrick anchored the 6pm and 11pm newscasts on WTVJ alongside Susan Lichtman until 1990 when he moved to WCIX (now WFOR). He left WCIX, and South Florida, in 1993 after he and the station could not agree on a new contract.
John’s responding to well-wishers and as of last week was returning emails. He has a lot of local friends praying for him.

The WTVJ Alumni site on Facebook has some nice threads from his friends and co-workers.
Keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
