Sheli Muniz Takes Over WTVJ Morning News for Pam Giganti

Sheli Muniz is the new face NBC 6 Today in South Florida viewers will wake up to very soon. She was named Pam Giganti’s replacement by NBC 6 VP of News Migdalia Figueroa. Muniz comes to South Florida from WKMG in Orlando where she anchored and reported for the past three years.

Muniz isn’t a total stranger to South Florida, she was briefly an assignment editor at WPEC five years ago before starting her career as anchor/reporter at WUFT in Gainesville. Then continuing at WRDW in Augusta, Georgia where she won Georgia AP Broadcast award for Feature Reporting, and a Georgia Association of Broadcasters Merit award for Best News Story. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications and News from the University of Florida.

NBC 6 SOUTH FLORIDA BOOSTS ITS NEWSGATHERING TEAM WITH HIRING OF NEWS ANCHOR SHELI MUNIZ

 

MIRAMAR, Fla. – December 7, 2015 – NBC 6 South Florida / WTVJ today announced that Sheli Muniz has been named News Anchor for NBC 6 News at 4:30 AM and at 11 AM. Muniz, who worked at WKMG, the CBS affiliate in Orlando from December 2012 until recently, is an award-winning bilingual journalist who has experience working across various parts of the state, including South Florida.

 

Muniz will join a dynamic and enterprising team of journalists that help viewers across South Florida start their day by providing the latest breaking news, up-to-the-minute weather forecasts and local traffic reports. Muniz succeeds longtime NBC 6 News Anchor Pam Giganti, who is retiring from broadcast television at the end of December.

 

“Pam is a veteran newswoman who has been an integral part of the NBC 6 family for 14 years and who has made countless contributions along the way. Muniz, who will start as a News Anchor with NBC 6 on December 16 and is scheduled to be on-air later the same month, joins NBC 6 after working as an Anchor and Reporter for WKMG, the CBS affiliate in Orlando, for three years. Previously, Muniz worked at WRDW, the CBS affiliate in Augusta, Georgia, from 2011 to 2012. Prior to this, Muniz worked as an Anchor, Entertainment Reporter, Web Producer and Assignment Editor at various Florida television and radio stations, including WPEC, the CBS affiliate in Palm Beach; WUFT, the PBS affiliate in Gainesville, and WRUF-AM, the CBS radio station in Gainesville. She began her career in the broadcast industry as an Intern for CBS News’ The Early Show in New York City.

 

Muniz has won numerous awards for her journalism, including a Georgia AP Broadcasters Award for “Best Feature Reporting” for her report titled, “Bodies of Science.” The Georgia Association of Broadcasters also presented her with a “Gabby Merit Award” in the “Best News Story” category for her news story, “Serial Rapist.”

 

Muniz earned a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications and News from the University of Florida.

  1. I’d like to know where she was born and her Hispanic roots? She loves the Arroz con Gandules that her mom makes. Things that make you go hhhhmmmmmnnn

  2. Basically arroz con gandules is a puertorican dish. As basic as black beans is a cuban dish. Every country have certain foods that are from there place of origin.
