Very, very so very sad to report that our Kelley Mitchell died at her home in Miami Shores on Sunday. She was just 58 years old. The Sun Sentinel reports cause of death hasn’t been determined yet.
I didn’t have the pleasure of knowing her personally, and only had limited contact with her a few times but she was one of those local journalists I never heard anyone say something bad about. She was … IS, the real deal.
I followed her on Twitter, instantly clicked with her humour and will remember Kelley as the funny, sarcastic chick she was. Our deepest condolences go out to her husband Kirk Wade.
She will be missed.
I loved Kelly as an anchor and reporter-great story teller and news reader. I knew when I saw her report for 7, it would only be a matter of time before she moved into the anchor chair. And when she did make that move..she introduced a new flare to 7. In the meantime-where have you been….I have read and liked your blog for so long and then the tidbits of what’s going on in the industry….slowed down dramatically. I see new talent on just about all of the local stations and not a peep from you? What’s going on? Why so few posts after a decade?
Very true. Likeable, pleasant, and professional. Enjoyed watching her grow on the air. Was so sorry to hear about her cancer back when and thought she was improving. Regards to her family.
As mentioned by the previous poster have not had much info coming from this site lately even with all the new hires and fires.
Having lived in this area for 30 plus years, I too remember her and am saddened by this at a relatively young age. May she RIP.
And yes, what gives with the lack of material here? Couldn’t wait to look for it and nothing new for weeks it seems.
So sad to see her go. I was shock to hear that she pass. It was a pleasure to watch her read the news. I can’t be leave she is gone.
May her soul rest in peace.
