WPTV helicopter pilot Captain Julie Stevens is leaving the station after 9 years. Unlike other stations in the area, Captain Julie was the only news helicopter pilot to be heard on the air daily, delivering traffic updates in the morning and when breaking news happens even though she flew with WPTV photographer Johann Hoffend. According to WPTV she is leaving for a much-needed break so she can spend more time with her family but would still be filling in occasionally.
Captain Julie Stevens is originally from London, England and started at WPTV in 2004 as the station’s ‘Chopper 5’ pilot after flying helicopters at several hospitals in the United States and England.
