David Bernard Signs Off WFOR

David Bernard WFOR CBS 4 Miami chief meteorologist Photo: CBSMiami.comDavid Bernard signed off Friday after about 5 years as the chief meteorologist for CBS4. He came to South Florida way back in August of 2005 form WWL in New Orléans, right before Hurricane Katrina hit. Former WFOR hurricane specialist Bryan Norcross hired him as his eventual replacement.

Rumor has it the powers that be in New York City handed instructions to CBS4 management to dole out pay cuts, and according to the usual “people familiar with the situation” David Bernard passed on a “significant pay cut” offer, and decided to walk. Another former WFOR meteorologist, Jeff Berardelli, is said to have left for the same reasons.

No word on what’s next for David Bernard, and whether we would see him on TV in South Florida again. For now he’s staying in the area, his partner has connections to South Florida.

  1. What a CHEAP station. How big of a cut did Cynthia have to take to stay. This will explain why Eliot will never leave.

  2. What a huge mistake! He is very talented, not too overblown, knows his stuff and is not sensationalistic. He is very good and this is a huge mistake! He will absolutely be missed.

  3. The most professional meteorologist in South Florida is gone. The changes in the marketplace is tragic and troubling. Mr. Bernard gave his notice last month but was professional and caring each evening in not showing his disappointment.

Good Luck Mr. Bernard…… You deserve it.

  4. Yeah WPLG should be calling him because lord knows that Betty Davis and Julie Durda won’t get us through a hurricane let alone an afternoon storm. WFOR and WPLG should swap David and Trent Aric. But then again WPLG doesn’t seem to want credible people on the air hence the huge changes there in the newsroom and weather department.

  5. I agree, I predict Dave will end up at Local 10. 10 doesn’t have anymore room for another so, since they just brought over big titty Julie and whitebread Roland, they’ll have to keep Betty for the black audiences so that means Mr. Indiana will be sent packing. That’s probably also the reason a chief meteorologist vacancy hasn’t been filled at WPLG…they’re waiting on Dave to show up.
