WSVN Expands Weekend Morning Newscast

9

The Saturday edition of Today in Florida on WSVN is getting an extra hour. During the early evening news they announced that starting tomorrow the program will run from 7am until 10am. This is the third time since WSVN are adding newscast to their weekend schedule. Previously they added a half-hour at 11pm in September 2009 and in July 2010 WSVN added a half hour of news at 6:30pm

For those keeping score, not counting Deco Drive and Sports Xtra, WSVN will now produce and air 61.5 hours of news a week! Add Deco and Sports Xtra and that number goes to 65 hours of in-house content weekly!

Going for a Guinness trophy?

  1. Hmm, I wonder what’s next Weekend Editions of 7News at Noon? On Sundays, would this pre-empt Fox’s NFL Pre-Game Show?

Also, with ABC’s O&O’s in the Top 4 Markets expanding their 11pm News to an hour on the Weekends, I wonder if WHDH will make Boston wait until Midnight to watch SNL.

  2. Back in the day, they used to have 2-1/2 hours of news on Saturday mornings. (Half-hours at 6, 7, & 8, & an hour at 9.) Then, they cut back. Now, they’re finally surpassing that again. I wonder if they’ll ever get rid of the televangelists on Sundays.

  3. On a separate topic, CBS has the only English duopoly in town & they don’t offer anything on weekend mornings (or 10pm weeknights)! In fact, they had an infomercial on Sunday evening, before 60 Minutes, instead of their news. When would be a good time to complain to the FCC?
