After a year-long search WPEC bosses have settled on John Discepolo as the station’s main co-anchor and partner for Liz Quirantes on the 6pm and 11pm newscasts. He is replacing Curt Fonger who retired last year.
John Discepolo comes from KOMO, the ABC affiliate in Seattle where he anchored weekend evenings. At first glance it is odd WPEC is hiring an outside but there might be a reason as Discepolo would be familiar to a lot of current and recent New Yorkers who call the Palm Beach area home because he was a sports anchor at WCBS in New York until 2009 and before that the sports director for NYC FOX affiliate WNYW for five years.
Another interesting tidbit – Discepolo worked with former WSVN sports director Ducis Rogers at WCBS, remember him? Both were laid off in 2009 from WCBS when the CBS network was going trough a talent purge at its local stations to save money. Incidentally Ducis left WSVN to join WCBS as a sports director. He’s now at WPVI in Phlly after a stint as ESPN Sportscenter host.
First day on the job for John Discepolo is September 24th.
Another pretty face to read the news to senior citizens on a station no one watches.
John Discepolo is a great anchor and awesome guy.
Enjoy West Palm John. We’ll miss you in Seattle.
