WFOR reporter Gio Benitez is leaving the station and jumping ship to the ABC Network. Benitez is joining as a correspondent for the network and according to the announcement sent out by ABC News president Ben Sherwood, he will be reporting on “all platforms” and will be based in New York City. He starts early in 2013.
I am delighted to announce that Gio Benitez will be joining ABC News as a correspondent reporting for all platforms.
An award-winning reporter, Gio comes to us from WFOR, the CBS owned station in his hometown of Miami where he has covered a wide-range of stories including relief efforts in Haiti after the devastating 2010 earthquake and the Trayvon Martin case. Most recently, he covered the 2012 presidential election across the battleground state of Florida.
In 2009, his innovative storytelling caught the eyes of many when he not only reported on the release of Apple’s iPhone but shot his entire story with the new device.
Versatile and hard-charging, Gio worked for years as an investigative producer before going on the air. With his many talents and dynamic storytelling ability, Gio will make a great addition to our team.
He will start with us in the New York bureau early next year.
Please join me in welcoming Gio to the ABC News family.
Good for him! Nice kid with a bright future!
Hard worker. Talented journalist. Great guy.
Eh, plastic Ken doll. Has the looks but his delivery is horribly forced, like he’s trying too hard to sound All-American. Loosen up a bit. You can speak English and still feel hispanic, like his future co-worker, John Quiñones.
Wouldn’t be surprised if other Miami Hispanics join him for the new Univision/ABC cable channel
