UPDATE: It appears that WPTV are really stretching Sackett’s retirement and going for an extra, extra long transition to a new main anchorman. According to a story posted on WPTV.com Jim Sackett will leave the station on December 2, 2011 but until then he stays as an anchor of the 6pm newscast, Michael Williams will begin to transition into his place starting June 1st

You know how for a long time we thought WPTV anchor Jim Sackett will be signing off for good by May 2011? No.

Just now, at the end of the 11pm newscast tonight Jim Sackett announced that he’s staying with the station in a part-time role that will have him anchor only the 6pm newscast with Kelly Dunn. Sackett said he and WPTV reached an agreement that will, for now, keep him as an anchor for a while longer without giving specifics. Meanwhile, Michael Williams who recently joined WPTV from WFOR is taking over the anchor slot at 11pm alongside Kelly Dunn.

Jim Sackett has been with WPTV for 33 years, first joining in 1978 as a weekend anchor and reporter before being promoted to weekdays in 1980. Trough those 33 years WPTV has remained not only the most watched TV station in Palm Beach County but also in the whole State of Florida.
