WFOR Shakes Up Anchors Lineup

10

WFOR are shifting anchors and changing their newscast lineup a bit.

First there will no longer be a separate newscast at 5:30pm. It’s now an hour-long program running from 5pm to 6pm anchored by Eliott Rodriguez and Shannon Hori. Both of them will also anchor the 11pm newscast. Antonio Mora will anchor the 6pm newscast solo. Cynthia Demos will anchor the 10pm newscast on WBFS TV33 also by herself.

Prior to these changes Eliott Rodriguez anchored the 5:30pm newscast with Cynthia Demos while Shannon Hori and Antonio Mora the 5, 6 and 11pm newscasts

All changes are effective today

  1. Rodriguez has bounced from lead anchor to second lead several times before. Odd that Antonio Mora went from the station’s golden boy to having one newscast. It will be interesting to see how long this will last.

And what makes them think a single anchor format will work. WTVJ and WPLG both ditched it when Jackie Nespral and Laurie Jennings lost their male leads.

  2. Hopefully it won’t last. Also, I can’t beleive CBS4/TV33 went generic with their Enforcer news theme. I hope KCNC doesn’t follow suit. Thank goodness WBZ isn’t headed in this direction with neither theme nor gfx.

  3. I was wondering what happened to Antonio Mora when I saw the latest commercial with E. Rodriguez and S. Hori.

  4. I’m sorry to hear that Antonio is only doing one newscast. I don’t get home from work early enough for the 6:00 p.m., news but always watched the 11:00 p.m. news show. I think Antonio is great and I think WFOR has made a mistake with this change.

    • Not only did WFOR make a mistake with THAT change, they also made a mistake by going with that G-d-Awful Enforcer theme. How could things get any worse?

  5. I Don’t think that a lot of people likes the change. I enjoyed watching Shannon and Antonio at 5pm. You watch, people are going to watch that awful Dr Phil and wait for Local 10 at 6pm. CHANGE IT BACK IT’S NOT A GO MOVE!!!!!

  6. When does Antonio Mora’s contract expire? That is the key here. By demoting him and separating him out as a solo anchor WFOR is marginalizing his importance to the station. Thus in a year or two when his contract expires they will quietly show him the door and no one will notice or care.

Eliott Rodriguez is the stable face who comes in whenever the lead male anchor fails. He has done this before. I would not be surprised if in three to six months WFOR announces a new lead anchor.

Shannon Hori will likely remain as the lead female anchor until she starts showing signs of age and then as tv managers always do they will dump her for someone young.
