WFLX Owner Expands Agreement with WPTV

2

WPTV is already producing all of the newscasts on WFLX as of 1/1/2011 but their agreement with Raycom is expanding according to TVNewsCheck. The updated arrangement will have WPTV take over the technical and online operations of WFLX, while its parent company Scripps will hire additional staff and invest in facility and equipment improvements. Raycom would keep its ad sales unit and lease office space at WPTV’s studios.

Raycom currently has a building near West Blue Heron boulevard and 42nd Way North where the main operations for WFLX are housed, including a control room and a set for Palm Beach-based Fox News guests.

  1. You know what wouldn’t surprise me? To see Scripps buy WFLX from Raycom. This in turn would form a duopoly, similar to WESH-WKCF in Orlando. If it does happen, I can picture a new WFLX open in my mind: Start with the Scripps Lighthouse bell, BUT instead of using the Scripps theme, oh yeah, use the Fox O&O theme.

    • That cant happen Adam. WFLX has at times rated #3. FCC would prohibit that. I can see News Corp buying the station tho. They inquired but Raycom wanted too much $$.
