Judge Rules Against WSVN Owner Sunbeam Television in Nielsen Lawsuit

1

A federal judge in Miami has ruled that television ratings company Nielsen did not violate US antitrust laws when it came to operating its South Florida ratings system. WSVN owner Sunbeam Television alleged that Nielsen engaged in anti-competitive behavior by blocking competitors from entering the South Florida television ratings market.

Sunbeam Television, owners of WSVN in Miami and WHDH in Boston, sued Nielsen after the company turned on the local people meters in Miami and WSVN’s audience fell nearly 50% from what it was the previous day when the old Nielsen ratings system was in use.

Sunbeam Television, however, appears isn’t planning to stop. They will be appealing the judge’s verdict and will press on with other parts of their lawsuit which allege that Nielsen engaged in unfair business practices.
