The Palm Beach Post is reporting former WPEC and WFTL traffic reporter Paul Cavenaugh has won a settlement with the company that owned and operated Sky 12, the news helicopter for Palm Beach’s CBS affiliate WPEC.

WPEC’s helicopter crashed on the morning of November 11, 2008 pilot Takayuki Tanaka and traffic reporter Paul Cavenaugh escaped with only minor injuries.

Unfortunately for Cavenaugh the rough jolt he got when the machine hit the ground on its belly gave him a bad enough back injury to require back surgery and leave him in chronic pain.

The NTSB issued its report on the cause of Sky12’s crash in June of 2009, concluding a loose pressure compressor and a “B”-nut loose to the point of no thread engagement as the reason why the Bell 206B lost engine power at 6:10am on November 11, 2008.
