@TodayinSF Shock: Does NBC6 Hate Me?

42

I sit here as I sip my morning tea in pure shock. Something so horrific has happened that can only lead me to one conclusion: NBC6 hates Jewish people?! This morning (once again, enjoying my morning tea) I was 1 of the 17 people watching Today in South Florida on NBC6. When they had their daily “Twitter Trivia,” I was already on Twitter (and happened to know the answer). At that point, I sent them the correct answer Tweet… and won! Problem is, when they announced the answers… I was no where to be found.

The Winner
The Winner

Notice the winners in order. First, AlexSFLTV. Then drkaprow. Finally, bubblesinfl. Please observe who was first.

REALLY?
REALLY?

Now, now… perhaps you may say to yourself that the reason why we weren’t recognized is because we’re the most hated blog in the South Florida news media. Perhaps you’re thinking it’s because someone blocked us from their work twitter account. Maybe you’re even aware of someone having a personal vindictive issue with the site.

None the less, those aforementioned reasons seem less than plausible. I think not; No sir. I prefer to draw to a much more likely conclusion in saying that I wasn’t recognized for my win, purely because of the fact that I’m Jewish.  Let me tell you something, WTVJ. I will keep playing and winning your “Twitter Trivia” or… “Twiva”… or “Twatacula Fact Game”… Whatever you call your “20 Questions” spinoff, mark my word that I will be recognized for my win!

LOW BLOW, NBC6.

On that note, follow me on Twitter.

**Please note the heavy sarcasm in the post. Nothing what I said is factual [insert legal stuff here]. I’m sure they love Jewish people… Just not this Jew.**

  1. Alex. I thought you were Latin…lol…..Well Alex, what do you expect from a bunch of Goys !!!! Bob Mayer was born Jewish but is married to someone who is not Jewish. I believe he even has a Christmas tree in his house. I’m just waiting to hear “The Fat Lady Sing” on the 11 am show. I don’t think its too far away.

  2. That is something that should be reported to the FCC, seriously. The FCC states that if a television station holds a contest or giveaway it must be handled in a fair manner and no preferences can be enforced. They can lose their license over something like this or at least get fined.

    • I really do appreciate your concern, however, I hardly care that much. Plus, I’m aware the only reason I wasn’t picked is because I simply sent the tweet from the SFLTV twitter :). Again, thanks!!

And Graham, no need to be so mean…

      • Actually, most people should have more cause for concern than you think. What makes you think they can’t or have not already done this to someone else for an even lesser reason. Is that actually fair to anyone that sits there, watches their show and answers their question first? I think not.

        • Well when one has a blog that points out every mishap at the station, often times they will rule that person out. I have seen that happen before. WTVJ didn’t do a first this time.

          • We don’t point out every mishap. If we did, we would have far more content and NBC6 would look far worse. When you do stupid things, you get noticed. When you get noticed, you end up on SFLTV.

            Shhhh.

  3. Alex….I thought maybe GB was Diego with some of the pro ch7 comments he made…..afterall not too many people that can type, are pro ch7……whatever happened to him?

    • You mean the youtube account link in my name didn’t give it away for you too?

Nope nope, I’m not Diego, I am not even hispanic (I am actually of German decent), tho I can speak some ¡español!

I have my personal reasons for liking WSVN and the mission of Sunbeam Television, perhaps if you meet Ed Ansin one day you will have a change in opinion.

      • Sorry pal, Ed Ansin is a typical miserable rich SOB in the Sumner Redstone/Rupert Murdoch tradition. I prefer my filthy rich folks to be in the Warren Buffett mold. Ansin is responsible for putting Rick Sanchez on TV. If that isn’t sufficient cause for hostility, what else do you need?

        • He is also responsible for some other national news figures like Robin Meade on Headline News and Jeff Glor on CBS Evening News Weekend.

You may not like Rick Sanchez, but I assure you CNN doesent just put him on there because they think its funny, they put him on there because he has brought in a lot of viewers. So, someone is liking him.

          • Yes, the same functional illiterate demo that made him a “star” at 7. Again, he and Sally Fitz were the bottom of the barrel as anchors-even worse than Nespral.

  4. Ask Ed Ansin why after his weekend weatherman was in a coma after being hit by a drunk driver while he was on his dinner break from ch7 that Ansin refused to ever talk to him again. This man only wanted to work at ch 7 ( he must have had really bad head injury, lol) and Ansin wouldnt even talk to him. I heard it right from the former weatherman himself, Wayne Chandler!! Yup, Ansin’s a class guy !!!

  5. No no Chuck, by the early 1990s WSVN had made up for bad ratings big time. They were on top of their game at that time. So to say that was entirely Ed and Sallys fault isnt really fair. Steve Rondinero, Peter Ford, and Steve Dawson all had other egotistical qualities that made them not well liked at WSVN which may have attributed to their departure, not necessarily the ratings.

    • No No, I beg to differ–they all fell into the black hole of anchoring, Sally Fitz–and ratings does not equal competent journalism. Had it ever occurred to you that part of the advantage was a 10 o’clock newscast? It doesn’t matter–7 was and is the capital of suck, as bad as 6 has gotten.

      • Then why has FOX wanted its own stations and other affiliates to mimic WSVNs format? Why did so many popular tabloid show mimic WSVNs presentation style and format such as ET, A Current Affair, etc? These shows all existed before WSVN went tabloid, but they drastically changed their formats in the 90s.

And, why is it Sunbeam never has to lay people off? They make money, and this is a business. There is no crime in wanting to make a profit.

Times are changing Chuck, and things just simply can’t stay the same forever. Your opinion is not what the world thinks of what is “competent journalism.”

  6. You forgot to mention Rick Sanchez !!!! No one had a bigger ego then him. In fact Rick’s ego was so big that none of the stage hands would even talk to him. Allen Sternberg , the stations operations mgr was one of my teachers in college back then. It was not a good place to work. Ansin was more like Hitler .

    • but the difference was, he brought in ratings. Rondinero, Dawson, and Ford did not.

BTW, we know where the first two went, whatever happened to Peter Ford?

  7. Belkys brings in ratings too…Doesn’t mean she is any good….If she lost her job I’m betting you would never see her as an anchor again, much like happened to Sally Fitz AKA Sally Morrison. WSVN dumbs up the news for the less educated. They like the fancy graphics and News alerts every 3 minutes.

    • Sally left on her own will. And many Sunbeamers have ended up elsewhere, I like Belkys, i think she could get a job elsewhere.

Boy! All of you are anti-anything not WTVJ. And even WTVJ you complain about.

Why don’t you all move to Chicago or something where you get slow moving newscasts? Sally Fitz lives there somewhere. They have a nice lowly rated NBC O&O also! But, it seems to carry the format you all like.

Or Maybe consider New York, WNBC another NBC O&O that has crashed and burned and seen layoffs. But, this station has the same two anchors on weekday evenings that it has always have and it has NEVER been #1, you would think NBC would get the hint that Chuck and Sue have never been able to put them on top and remain not being able to put them on top. So instead they go to old brandings that they used when they were at the bottom of the market before, and guess what? They remain at the bottom of the market.

For a short move, you could move to West Palm Beach and watch the wonderfully rated WPTV. The #1 station in the Milkyway Galaxy as they like to think of themselves. After all, they are the reason we have 2 markets anyways since they affiliated with NBC without realizing WFLTV in Fort Lauderdale already carried NBC at the time and could be reached easily in Miami, Broward, and Palm Beach.

  8. Hint hint: NBC hired Joel Cheatwood from WSVN to copy the “if it bleeds it leads” dumbbell style at all its O & O’s. How has it done so far? I don’t go by call letters, which is what the idiot bean-counters would like. I follow the people who can write and read their stuff with a modicum of intelligence. Once upon a time, stations were operated in such a way that they drew competent journalists. Does anyone remember that Steve Kroft went from political reporter at WPLG to his post at 60 Minutes? WPLG and WTVJ had great traditions in this market. Ann Bishop, Glenn Rinker, Ron Hunter, all dead now. Same for Ralph Renick. For the same reason that the Herald stinks while other papers still do the job, Miami just seems to draw the lazy and stupid–on both sides of the camera.

    • Uhh, well move. I gave some great options above. I hardly think wtvj follows wsvns tabloid format. They can’t be since they rate bad and wsvn rates good. Wtvj is just like all the other NBC owned stations, same format. I don’t believe any of NBC’s o&o’s rate #1 in their respective market. The ones who did do ok are now worse, like wmaq.

Maybe if NBC didn’t waste so much paying useless anchors like chuck and sue in NYC who never brought in #1 ratings, or paying rent on a giant tower in Chicago and San Diego (a smaller market than Miami)to display their logo at the top, these costs wouldn’t trickle down to hurt what matters most, their stations!

      • I WAS BORN HERE. You sure think a lot of yourself. All I’ve ever said is why would a station cre what I think? I’m just the guy holding the remote. South Florida is a media cesspool, and that goes for TV, radio and newspapers. There are a few bright spots, but the only reason these large corporate interests are in this market is so they can write off the winter golf junkets as business expenses. The fact you know Chuck and Sue indicates what I’ve been saying–there are years of equity and trust built up in watching them, and they should not be treated as poorly as they have been. Nespral has been in the chair how long? Will anyone shed a tear if they dump her tomorrow? Grow up GB. You know nothing about journalism, and a monkey can read a Nielsen book.

  9. Back to the Twitter Trivia posts, I didn’t realize Bill Elias was in South Florida now. I remember him when he was the weekend weatherguy for the FOX station in Philadelphia, probably early-mid 90’s. Last I heard he was in Texas. Guess he’s given up on weather…

  10. If 6’s license got pulled, don’t you think the person/company who received it after would do a better job with it? Wouldn’t it work out for the better?

  11. Is there anyone here that thinks GB has given great opinions, other then GB? GB is the Sally Fitz of this website, don’t you think so Chuck?
