The rough economy is hurting everyone. Buyouts are flying at WNBC up in New York; Len Berman is set to leave soon, and Chuck Scarborough is rumored to have allegedly accepted a buyout as well. In South Florida, they’re more cutbacks on the way to WTVJ. Salary freezes are allegedly starting soon, if not already in effect. Apparently, there will no longer be raises for non-contractual employees. They are also allegedly asking all contracted employees to forgo their annual raises, which from what I’m told, can be quite hefty. This corresponds with the hiring freeze already in effect. Saying that, it’s said that they don’t have to forgo their raises, but if they don’t, they’re most likely going to be pushed out when contract reconsideration arrives.
Maybe Jeff Zucker should return some of those millions that were given to him for crappy management.
No kidding.
You took the words right out of my mouth. As a suffering GE shareholder, I think it’s the least he can do in these times of “shared” sacrifice.
this is flat out false. several people have just been hired over there, and there are more openings. also, non contractual employees ARE receiving raises (if they deserved them), although they are smaller than usual.
I’m simply going by what my sources have told me. You can feel free to e-mail me (alex@sfltv.com) if you have any information to contradict the information I received. Otherwise, I’m going to trust my sources… rather than someone who uses the e-mail 5@6.com.
There is a hiring freeze going on, (not just at WTVJ) and only essential employees are being hired (example: NBCMiami.com folks). In fact, I’ve been told by multiple insiders that the executive producer position open and assistant news director position may not even be filled.
It is not false, I was set up to possibly be hired there and many of the positions advertised were eliminated without anyone being hired in them. WTVJ is NOT however, on an “official” hiring freeze, they are just moving slowly. So Alex is right in saying they advertise for positions they probably won’t hire for.
Has it ever occurred to you that I wish to remain “anon”ymous? I know WTVJ has just hired people. I know some non-exempt employees have just gotten raises. Your two statements, Hiring freeze, and no raises, are both incorrect. Some people not getting raises, and some positions not being filled is not the same as a hiring freeze and no raises.
I’ve refuted some of your inaccuracies before, only to have my comments deleted, so I doubt if this one will see the light of day. Is it possible your “sources” are pulling your leg sometimes? Or maybe just flat out screwing with you for their own amusement? Either way, you are wrong this time.
If you’re trying to become the National Enquirer of websites, you’re well on your way.
Flamer
Anon – I’m not going to publicly bicker with you. If you want to discuss it more, I’ve told you before, you can e-mail me. My sources have never “pulled my leg,” nor would they. They have no reason to. Like I said, if you have any real proof (e-mails, letters, etc…) to contradict my post – Send them to me.
it is sort of hard for me to send you proof and stay anonymous. maybe you’d like a copy of my pay stub? i’d say the fact that i work there and you don’t, makes my info more accurate.
Really not in the mood to publicly bitch at you, so we’ll agree to disagree…
It’s not as though 6’s management doesn’t have a history of being cheap and stupid, right? Nespral must have some photo album somewhere.
When you say “non-contractual” employeees, are you referring to YOHs? Are they getting deserved raises?
All of the YOH employees are gone… beside one… and I’ll have that story later next week (still working on it).
again, incorrect. all the yoh employees are not gone besides one, and more are on the verge of being hired. perhaps you mean all the ON-AIR yoh employees except one are gone?
Ya’ know, that is what I meant. See, we’re getting along already! When can we have coffee?
Not to hijack the thread, but what in the world is going on with WTVJ-DT’s audio?!?!?!?
It’s been fubar for weeks now! Anyone?!?
Anon is wrong and the postin gis somewhat wrong. WTVj is on an official hiring freeze for any new positions but they can still fill positions that are open. So, if they wanted to add a reporter or photographer, they could not do that. If they wanted to hire an Assistant News Director or EP, they could, but that person would get a low ball salary because they want to save money. They have already promoted one guy to EP who was a producer, but he didn’t get the raise with the title. he is just playing the role of an EP with no benefits of bein gone. As for slary freezes. Non contractual employees are getting smaller raises. As the months go on, more and more people will not get raises. NBC has already approached a few contract workers in New York and LA and asked them to not take their raise. Miami will do the same, by the orders of Jeff Zucker soon. I’m not sure if anyone has been approached yet. I am talking about big raises. Many of our contract talent on the desk can get thousands of extra dollars per year. producers and EP’s usually don’t have contracts, so they may get their small raise, but when you make 60 thousand or less as a producer or EP, a 5 percent raise is nothing. Some of our anchors, not reporters, anchors, make 200 plus. I know two of our main players get over $300, so a 10 or 20 percent raise there in yor contract is 10 or 20 thousand bucks. Does that clear anything up. This is slowly happening at other NBC stations and it will happen in Miami. If there have been new hires, they filled vacant positions but got lower salaries than the people before them. I know one person on our production crew was up for a staff position and just after they were told they had it, it was taken away and they were given a YOH position will full benefits to compensate for the loss.
so they are filling jobs and they are giving raises. what did i say that was wrong?
I love FLAMERS!!!!!!! LOL
WHo will flame out next ????????
Judging by statistics…. You?
Thanks Alex you are a DOLL.
Love you to
Kiss KISS
Love ya Diego. Love ya.
I realize I’m a little late to this convo, and am commenting on a very minor detail of this post (lol), but I really don’t like Chuck Scarborough and I wouldn’t be sad to see him go.
Paul Moyer, long time anchor at KNBC Los Angeles, also announced his retirement recently. Don’t know if it was a buyout like Scarborough is rumored to be.
WNBC will hire Joel Connable to take Chuck’s place.
