Tipster are telling me in yet another cost cutting move NBC has ended its contracts with Helicopter Inc. for news choppers the company operates for NBC-owned stations in San Francisco, New York and Miami.
For now the info I have is that as of April 30th Chopper 6 (as well as NY and SF stations’ birds), will no longer fly leaving WTVJ presumably with no helicopter. Kind of ironic, considering all the money spent on upgrading Chopper 6 to high definition in March of 2008 as part of WTVJ’s move to HD. You can check out a tour of it after the jump below.
Also, regarding my post from yesterday about Miami stations sharing helicopter which showed up briefly, that was only a draft based on multiple tips we got, but it got posted online inadvertently due to the database issues we’re having lately. I have no information on whether or not there will be chopper sharing in Miami yet. But whatever we learn we’ll share 🙂

Funny how you give yourself a chance to correct and explain “database issues” and inadvertent posting your site experienced but when another site has the same problem or a glitch happens (ie: videos getting posted mistakenly) you use that as an opportunity to write your next blog and talk crap about the site.
That’s what I mean when I say I’m just getting tired of the sensationalized bull this website has become!
This crazy site honestly has a mind of its own. We always write “drafts” of our posts, and this time, it got posted (somehow) during our little “April Fools” joke. It was up for around 6 minutes… though, judging by your above post… you didn’t know (or see) that. It was not even remotely related to what happened on NBC6.net. You should know that.
Oh, and by the way… Funny how we did correct and explain ourselves..
Let me rephrase. It was up for around 6 minutes… (in a restricted part of the site that very few were able to see)
Lol, I think accidentally posting a rumor is a little better than accidentally posting VIDEOS about plane crashes and whatnot.
this is amazing…i cant wait to see how the “no helicopter” thing works for nbc. what a shame.
as far as the stations sharing choppers, unofficial word is that 4 and 10 are entering into a partnership at the end of the year when wplg (allegedly) dumps their helicopters inc contract as well!
This also means that WSCV Telemundo 51 will be without a helicopter?
