It appears that WSVN’s transition is chugging along.
According to an insider 7 just got their robocams delivered (studio cameras that are controlled by something like joystick from the control room rather than people) and were installing them. Like WHDH summer 2008 seems to be the time frame WSVN will make the jump to HD as well.
There were some more details but unfortunately Firefox decided to close down and I lost the message.
AJ from Boston News Coverage blog says a WHDH insider told him they’d be in HD by this summer or even earlier (just in time for May sweeps perhaps?)
I don’t know if mentioned before, but i noticed TVJ has canged their cams installed on their Vinten robocam pedestals, the ones they were using after they moved to miramar were a lot bigger than the ones i saw Last week on SFL Nightly News, i guess thay’re HD, and i saw a promo of T51 w/ control room shot; and they changed the wall sreens wit like 6 big ass plasmas, but since this is a SVN topic; can’t wait to see ’em in HD.
Yeah Frank, I mentioned about that in a recent post. I took a tour of the WTVJ station. It’s true, they’re going completely automated. They’re going to be doing some automatic news cast thing. They have 7 42″ High Definition Screens, with individual little monitors in them. Make it seem like the old video wall. All they’re cameras are automatic. Then, soon, many workers are going to be getting laid off, because where the cameras need to go, what mics are going to be used, etc., etc., it’ll be placed in the script, and the computer will automatically know what to do. So, there will be like 2 people in the control room running the show, the TD, and the Teleprompter Operator. Bob Mayer said this should be all up and running by next month, or March. So, what’s going on with WTVJ in the control room, will be a mirror image for T51. So exciting! Also, to make things funny, I almost got hit by an automatic camera, just like in the Weather Man when Nicholas Cage is walking through the Today show set, and the camera begins to swing, just like that. LOL!
Can’t wait to see what the first on-air computer malfunction will look like. With minimal staff on hand for fixes, it’ll definitely be “must see TV”. 😉
I can tell you from WFLA in Tampa….
Their on air screw-ups have been numerous and hilarious. From wrong supers, ots grafix that are the wrong pic, or no pic, to wrong open mics, to cams crashing into each other.
It has been funny. – in a sad way.
Don’t know why in the world they just don’t upgrade the equipment to HD and not try to do everything at once. HD is one thing, automation is another. Killing two birds with one stone will be asking for problems.
Does anyone know…. Will Superbowl be broadcast On air HD?
I/m using an old Voom tuner to pick up HD signals, but I can never acquire a wsvn signal.
Desperate for HD….
