I don’t often say this, but this looks bad. Hurricane Gustav stares down the Gulf Coast looking to be a category five and make landfall as a category four. I’m not going to go all religious on you, but just keep all of the residents and families in your thoughts. This feels different then Katrina. We know how strong this is and the general direction it’s going. We 100% know it’s going to be bad. Again, keep them in your thoughts.
On to what forecasters are calling “Gustav’s little sister”, Tropical Storm Hanna. Who the heck knows where this thing is going. Basically every forecast model shows it going in a different direction. I guess we’ll worry about that when our local weather guessers can tell us where it’s going.
Here we go again…
I lived in Perrine when Andrew paid a visit. My house imploded. If I were to do it all over again, I would have gone north. I hope those folks in Louisiana get out of town.
I don’t want to jinx it or anything, but it looks like we’ll be getting quite a bit of impact from Hanna. It appears to be heading straight towards us…but we can only watch, wait, and hope.
The good news is… so many storms lose steam in the northern gulf… especially with the forecasted wind shear. The window for potential strengthening is closing. I think it may not be that big of a deal meteorologicaly at landfall… cat 2. Which went from a cat 4 to a cat one in half a day. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Lili
Unless we see rapid intensification soon, I’m thinking this well be similar to Hurricane Lili in 2002. The latest visible satellite pictures do show a better looking eyewall formimng… we’ll see how the next 12 hours goes for intensification. Historically storms weaken often outside the loop current and warm water eddies in the northern gulf.
PER CNN SUNDAY: GUSTAV COULD BE MORE TRAGIC, MORE DEVASTATING THAN KATRINA.
Praying for our brothers and sisters in the Gulf States, especially NEW ORLEANS?
Good.
