  1. post newsweek stations is buying NBC6 and doing away with the local news product. The operation will be moved to the new building.Only NBC programing will be on 6. Ed Ansin/Sunbeam will buy the current building in Miramar and move WSVN there. 🙂 you heard it here first.

  2. The condo commando’s at the WSVN North Bay Village facility have been told the EXACT same info. WSVN will be vacating the premises and the deveolper there is ecstatic about this news! Now we wait for the Miami Herald to get a hold of this info and report it accurately!

  3. You’re serious about this? Wow. Post-Newsweek will own WTVJ, and move into the new building. That settles that. I thought NBC was selling WTVJ, not the building. Are they selling the building?? I don’t get that part. Fill me in on who owns the building. If you all could.

  4. That sounds pretty horrible to me. Its not only horrible its ridiculous. Couldn’t have thought of something worse.

  5. By the way that picture is photoshopped. Someone did a w/e job on it. You can really tell when you click on the picture and expand it.

  6. just one station, you are very much out of the loop reporting that same old rumour, one by the way, which started from a simple visit to wtvj by wplg’s gm and chief engineer to gather info for their new building on the automation system that will be installed there. guess what? sources much more in the know than you, are saying that nbc is very close to a deal with newscorp which will have fox buying wtvj. they will then run a duopoly from wtvj (which is already set up that way) carrying both nbc and fox programming. the animosity between ed ansin and fox and ed ansin and nbc is well documented, and this is where they both stick it to him. hope wsvn enjoys their new roll as “my network tv” station, because it is coming right around the corner.

  7. Running NBC and Fox as a duopoly? Uh, care to explain how? You need two channels for that, and NBC only has Channel 6 (which is going away) and the digital signal on Channel 31. It is unlikely NBC would agree to putting peacock programming on one of WTVJ’S secondary digital channels while Fox had the main spot.

Fox buying 6 is a good possibility, but NBC would then likely move its programming elsewhere. Possibly on 39 if Tribune was interested, possibly on 7 (remember, it already deals with Sunbeam in Boston). NBC would deal with Ansin if it meant good dial position, but Maybe Ed is uninterested.

As for going My Network TV, while it is pretty dismal, CBS has a contract with them for WBFS. However, if WSFL got NBC, WBFS has first rights to the CW, and Ed could have My Network TV.

  8. What about Telemundo-51? If FOX buys the building, would Telemundo-51’s news division have to move back to Hialeah? Telemundo should buy the Triple A Arena studio from channel 6, expand it, and have Channel 51 run the news division from the arena studio…just my suggestion…what do you think??

  9. T51 moving back to Hialeah is pretty much a done deal. The T51 & Telemundo network heads have had several meetings back and forth and the move is to be announced soon. So … back to the warehouse district.

  10. NBC is not going to allow Fox and WPLG to buy NBC6. If you ever look at the history of General Electric, they don’t sell to people who are going to lay off people and break up the station. There will continue to be an NBC station anchored by NBC people in Miami. Ou rgeneral manager told us she doesn’t think the deal will go through.

  11. 20 plus, didn’t your gm say that not only is a deal going through, it is expected to be announced as early as june? aren’t they just in the final stages with the top bidders now?

  12. All of this is speculation and anyone can post just about anything here. However, ask yourself some of these questions…

    1. Why does NBC want to sell WTVJ? Officially — to raise case. Unofficially — WTVJ is at or near the bottom of a 6-station race. Reality – combination of both.

    2. Why wouldn’t NBC want a new Miami affiliate? Regardless of who buys WTVJ there is no magic wand that will fix their problems overnight. It will take time. Does NBC want to wait 2, 3, 5, 10 years until there is stability and growth at WTVJ? NBC could start fresh with just about any other television station in South Florida.

    3. Why would FOX want WTVJ? FOX virtually owns the state with 4 O&Os. Why not a 5th? FOX would want to out-FOX WSVN with flashy news to cash in on the ratings and ad revenue. They would have a base to cover points south for Fox News Channel. There were discussions within the last 3 years of FOX buying out Post-Newsweek TV giving them Jacksonville, Detroit, Houston, and Miami among others. FOX has the money and could deal away Ocala or another small market station to keep within ownership limits if necessary.

    4. Would Post-Newsweek buy WTVJ? It seemed like they were ready to deal their television stations a few years back but now maybe it’s time to add to their base…

    5. Would Post-Newsweek kill the WTVJ news? A company based on news would not likely kill news at a major-market network affiliated TV station. Perhaps you’d see the creation of the South Florida News Network and something along the line of First Coast News in Jacksonville. You’d have a shared duopoly of news – on Ch 6 – SFNN at 5:00 and 5:30, Extra at 6:00pm, Access Hollywood at 6:30pm, SFNN at 7:00pm, NBC Nightly News at 7:30pm and on Ch 10 – Dr. Phil at 5:00pm, SFNN at 6:00pm, ABC World News at 6:30pm, Wheel at 7:00pm, Jeopardy at 7:30pm. You’d have direct news simulcasts on 6 and 10 from 5:00am – 7:00am, from 11:00pm – 11:35pm and have a toss-up at noon.

    6. Would Sunbeam buy WTVJ? Maybe to stop or block being on the losing end of musical chairs Sunbeam would step in. However, Ed Ansin’s pockets may not be $400 million deep.

    7. How does Sunbeam get the WTVJ Miramar studios? NBC could sell the studios and build back in a lease option to keep WSCV in place. The 6 on the tower front facing I-75 would be changed to a 7 very quickly.
    8. Can we get more complicated? Sunbeam and/Post-Newsweek could have been onsite just to have a look or they could have been there because they discussed this already. NBC sells WTVJ to Post-Newsweek who moves them down the road in Miramar and WSVN buys the facilities and moves in. The NewsPlex becomes the Duplex as they lease space back to NBC for WSCV.
    9. Is there anyone else out there? All the talk has centered on FOX, Sunbeam and Post-Newsweek. Are there any other interested parties that have been under the radar until now???
Think about this and have some fun….
