Congratulations to Roy, who has worked his butt off for WSVN for years. His initiative and persistence in doing on-air work paid off. The opportunity he is getting is well-deserved, and he’ll make the most of it.
This is a slap in the face to those who work hard in the industry ! How he got the job is beyond me ! From truck op to reporter, wow! That is the most interesting progression I’ve seen yet. Hey he got the opportunity let’s see what he makes of it. Oh by the way he is not gay.
Hey Thunderbird, I agree with you. I saw way too many more talented people leave WSVN to go to a lower market to start their careers as reporters. Nothing against Roy, but what ever happened to working your way to the top. But then again, this is WSVN, remember Pam Giganti, she was a writer and they made her a reporter, she sucked big time!
Roy isn’t a truck op. He’s smart young man who graduated from college after studing to be a reporter. Like so many aspiring reporters he took a job at a station where he can watch, learn, make a tape, and move on.
The job he chose wasn’t traditional for people wanting to be repoters….ie writer, AP, or something indoors. In choosing to be a truck op he positioned himself where all the action is where he could watch reporters from all stations first hand. Turns out all his watching paid off. The tape he put together was so good the powers that be decided to give him a chance. It’s the kind opportunity so many people dream about and wish they could have received. It’s also the kind of opportunity that makes people who never made it or who fear the unconventional JEALOUS!!!!
so get over it. His first reporting job is in MIAMI..and no he’s not gay….he’s super nice and all the ladies love him….even more reasons to hate him.
WOW! Stop it people! “slap in the face?” Come on. The bottom line is this: Got the skills–GOT THE JOB. Roy has the skills…and apparently he has the job. I applaud Alice and Tom at WSVN for seeing talent, giving talent a chance and making it happen. Someday Roy is going to make all the other stations and nay sayers wish they had done the same. Stop picking people apart. It’s no fun to live in a head like that. GO ROY GO!
God you people.. That is the American Way. He worked hard and started from the bottom. If he got the job than he got the job cause he worked hard. Who cares if he started as a janitor or an van op.
Talent? That isn’t the point here! Its all about who you know and who you are in good with and it is well known that this dude was in good with the right people and they “hooked it up.” A majority of people work hard in this industry – many very talented, but they do not have connections that this dude has. I applaud him for taking advantage of the opportunity he worked hard (or sucked up to get), if that is what you have to do go for it LOL! Yeah Go Roy go! Many other very talented and hard working individuals with more experience will continue the usual struggle without making the LUCKY connections. GO ROY DO YOUR THING !! ! It’s nice to see that some people will get an opportunity through just observation, whatever. . . I know it takes a lot of energy to hate but man! ! Do your THING ROY! !
No surprise that WSVN would pull something like this. The station is a joke anyways so why hold it up to any traditional standards. The fact that Roy is a truck op turned “reporter” only drives home the point even more.
I don’t doubt Roy’s hard work but in this business people pay their dues and make it to top from the bottom up. Some, like Roy, get a break — and its not well deserving, its just that a break.
I wonder if the “powers at be” ever realize why Channel-7 is a joke of a news station. Aside from the “news” content, its decisions like these that leave people dumbfounded inside the business and out.
I set aside the argument of the “American dream” because the reason TV News is on the decline are decisions like these. To simply throw people on air which is what WSVN is doing with Roy because of their looks and appeal to a certain demo.
He’s good looking and hispanic, does this “hiring” really surprise anyone?
Vivian Gonzalez got her first reporting gig at WSVN but jesus christ at least she produced weather segments and had a bit of a clue on how to transition into actual news. But to go from editing to truck op?
Does anyone not see an important component missing? Writing, story selection, producing, even photography — all key elements needed to be a reporter.
Its absurb and with time it’ll show on air. Though I don’t doubt he’ll be covering hard news anytime soon.
Ask Dwight Lauderdale, Craig Stevens, Michael Williams, Ileana Varela, Bob Mayer, Guillermo Benetiz, Gary Nelson, Michael Putney what they think about this and I’m sure they’d agree how dumb of a move it was.
Ray, I totaly agree with you. I know a few people who left WSVN to actualy learn how to be a reporter and hope to someday come back to So. Fla. with hope to get on the air with WSVN or another station. You’re totaly right when you say that reporters have to pay their dues and once he gets his time on the air, it will trully show that he has “NO” experience as a reporter. Just because you know how to edit a pkg, or set up a live shot, or shoot from skyfore, doesnt make you a reporter. I’m glad he got a “break” and got the job, but we’ll see him bomb on the air soon enough.
wow! give the guy a break!! this blog is usually filled with venom (as is the industry as a whole) but seriously folks….
roy has worked very hard for a very long time to get the break that he got this past week…some people choose to start in market 200 reporting, shooting, editing, and occasionally putting in a live shot, others work their a$$es off in market 16 doing the exact same things, but in a different order.
i applaud the management at wsvn for giving him the opportunity..and for all you crying that it means the end of the business, explain yourselves…why?
yes, many great reporters worked their way up through the ranks and markets and toiled hard and long to get where they are…does this mean that roy has not? he’s worked here for like 4 years doing all sorts of jobs, all while learning all he could and from the best.
talk with the photographers who like the guy…the truck operators who learn from him…the reporters who teach him…the assignment editors who help him…and the managers who took a gamble on him BEFORE you jump to your petty conclusions
and before we all forget…lets look at other folks in the market who have done similar things: roxy vargas/nbc6..started in the GM’s office as an aide. arlene borenstein/nbc6..works on the desk and occasionally fronts stories on the air. the countless interns on wplg and wfor who end up being on the air doing traffic reports and even reporting. i’m sure there’s more, i just can’t think of any right now…
get off your high horses and cut the guy some slack.
The guy may have worked for about 4 years learning from everyone. . again so what!
I will repeat I know of several different very talented individuals who tried to make it there and were turned down. . .
It’s all about who they want and like. . .Who looks good and young on TV to appeal to their audience. . .
Congrats to him for getting the gig. . . But again I agree with ray at least Vivian worked hard behind the scenes in her area and practiced tirelessy for months to improve her craft. . .
All in all though the industry is constantly shifting in different directions. . .There are several high paid reporters and anchors around the country who are being dumped for plenty of reasons. . budget. . .fresh young new faces. . .etc. . .
So again Congrats to him for getting the opportunity and hopefully he uses this opportunity to gain ON THE JOB TRAINING cause that is essentially what he will be doing!
But again plenty of other individuals have worked a lot harder, more talented, and have more experience (years and positions) who have been turned down. . .So good luck to him! ! !
The problem in supporting such a “hiring” decision is that you lose sight of the profession we’re talk about here: journalism.
I don’t doubt Roy’s hard work but being the responsibility to inform the public about at times very serious issues is not an apprenticeship.
Journalism be it print or on-air commands more than “shooting, editing, or occasionally putting in a live shot” — it’s a craft that should not be taken lightly.
To be a reporter is not a check-list of: editor or truck op it’s an understanding of what it mean to interview and ask the right questions, or how to handle breaking news.
Starting off in a market-100 is where learn the trait, it’s where you get “on the job training” not in a top-20 market. To work in television and argue otherwise shows how little of belief you have in what your job is at television news station.
I don’t applaud management and not for the opportunity but for re-enforcing industry trends. TV News is not on the decline because of outside forces but because of decisions like these.
“Yes, many great reporters worked their way up through the ranks and markets and toiled hard and long to get where they are …”
But, what?
The above statement is the very standard by which reporters and journalists are to be judged. Anything else and you’ve taken away the incredible responsibility that is entrusted by the public to the news industry.
No petty conclusions. I’m not opposed to this gamble because he is a bad guy. I am opposed to this gamble because it takes away from those who have either followed a different path or those who still believe it’s the right path to take.
Vargas and Borenstein are perfect examples of why its a disservice to not only the individual but the industry.
Traffic reporting hardly equates to covering any beat on the street. And yet Ill concede Vivian, who not only was going to school and majored in meteorology but is working to get accredited.
I’m not opposed to people getting a break when its well deserved and thought out. Roy was not hired because he is the next Craig Stevens, Dwight Lauderdale, or even Dave Kartunen — he was given the opportunity because he fit a demo that WSVN is appealing to and if you no problem with it then all this arguing back and forth is pointless.
No high horses here and trust me the guy has already been cut some slack being allowed in a top-rated market station without any experience.
Wow, tough room.
Consider this. Al Sunshine started out as a film cameraman for WTVJ, first job out of college. I think Bob Mayer did the same. Ed O’Dell, a respected journalist at WTVJ who has since retired started out as a ‘visitor’ to the Popeye Playhouse with Chuck Zink. Not exactly a ‘news’ job. Lots of people in this business start in non-traditional places. Just because someone takes a job as a ‘truck op’ doesn’t mean they didn’t study journalism and can’t be journalists, and learn about their craft on the job. David Sutta, over at 4, started as a videotape editor for WTVJ. Shannon High, former news director at WFOR, got her first producing experience as an intern for the station 15 years earlier. If you think the only way to get to be an on-air reporter is to start your career that way, you haven’t been paying attention. Most News Directors would rather hire someone who has diverse experience, especially now as reporters must know video, digital cameras, feeding for the web, and the like. This kid might actually have a leg up on his peers as broadcast journalism changes.
You people are saying some mean things about Roy. Why does it always seem like people are harder on the men in this business? Anyway, Roy has been working his butt off at WSVN and has earned the respect of the whole news department and management alike with his strong work ethic. He’s a really nice guy and he’s definitly not gay, and he’s been out on the field busting his ass for months and months before they put him on air. So, it’s not like he just went from truck op to reporter in a day. And lastly, at least he looks good on camera, unlike Vivian. That girl cant dress or fix herself up for crap. GO ROY GO!
I think another point that needs to be considered. No one is questioning his hard work, the question is how hard did he work at becoming a reporter. Shadowing reporters and observing for a couple months or a year is not enough unless if the person turns out to be be Dwight Lauderdale, etc. . .
The jury is still out on that. . .
We will need to see more well thought out and comprehensive packages, and oh let’s not forget most importantly “LIVE SHOTS” in order to make a final judgement.
The fact is he got a break, and a big reason why he got this break is because was and is “in good” with the right people. .
Again more power to him and good luck on taking adavantage of this Lucky Break he is getting. .
wait till there’s a major story that breaks and 7 has to go on the air .. how do you think their current bench will do? they totally got massacred by WFOR a few years ago when the marshals shot the guy at MIA.. they had to wait for the AP to confirm stuff. meanwhile, at 4, brian andrews and mike kirsch were breaking details left and right — real reporters with real source.. go figure. miami is a joke now. no reporter in town has sources anymore. it’s all about looking pretty and sounding sexy. phoning it in will only go so far, kids.
I don’t know how people can be so cruel… First of all if you are going to sit there and talk shit… Get to know the person.. Get your facts straight… Vivian Gonzalez is a very respectful, mature and great meterologist. She dresses great (from cache and bebe) she knows what she is saying, and best of all she is a wonderful person. I got to meet her… I wish her nothing but the best of luck always…
At least we understand the weather… I wish to see you more often on TV… Us caterers love when you do the weather…
You people are saying some mean things about Roy. Why does it always seem like people are harder on the men in this business? Shilzz, you make me sick. She dresses awesome. cache and Bebe are awesome sponsors. At least she matched her clothing unlike Julie Durda. She has been on air since November and still sounds like a ditsy. And Durda had no former training in meterologly, only traffic. Vivian has more experience and definitely derserves the morning spot. They just wanted an Elita look alike. When Durda talks it sounds like a category 5 hurricane. She is sloppy with her explanations and timing is too long. Take her out and put Vivian any day with her classy and very chic clothing from Cache anytime. You go Vivian Gonzalez. Don’t listen to these haters.
Roy Ramos is not gay!!! I know this because I’m fucking him!!!! So all you haters drink your fucking hateraide and move on!!! He’s also an excellent reporter…better then most at WSVN…He’s talented, a hardworker and the job was well deserved.
News Flash “SexyOpsGirl” (which there realy isn’t any sexy girls in Ops anyway), you can still be gay and still “F**k” women. You should also watch your language in this site, we’d like to see it stay up!
Hey Mr. Anonymous sounds like you’re about 80-years-old…I can speak the way i want to speak. Are you a language corrections officer of some kind? Or do you secretly just like to fuck guys and hope that roy will one day be a candidate? Well sorry to bust your homosexual bubble but he’s straight. As straight as his dick is when he sees me. Oh and Mr. Nobody I went to my gyno the other day and everything’s peachy…thanks for the concern…but you migh want to tell your mom…she might have a problem…
Hey “SkankyOpsGirls”, besides Mr. Ansin, how many other 80 y/o guys do you see at 7? And by the way, being felt up by all the bumbs on 79st isnt going to the gyno!
Hey Mr. Anonymous (a.k.a. frustrated homosexual)…sounds like you have the experience seeing as how you know about being felt up by Bums on 79th st. IT’S O.K. TO COME OUT OF THE CLOSET NOW! IT’S O.K. TO BE YOU’RE TRUE SELF! LET IT OUT! THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE!!!!
Mr. anonymous equals hater #1, I would like to see your hater ass fight Roy in the cage. I’m sure he would kick your ass and then take your girlfriend.
On a more serious note, it is pathetic and disturbing to see how critical people can be. Seeing Roy is like a breath of fresh air. From what i understand, he is a very driven and motivated individual who has a remarkable talent. He has great delivery, he’s intelligent, and he’s a good looking guy.
Hey Cohenmd, “a breath of fresh air”???? You sound like you’ve gotten pounded up the ass by Roy in the cage a few times!!!!!
And “SluttyOpsGirl”, you’re the one that sounds frustrated from being banged by Roy! Try a real man sometimes, not a wannabe cage fighter/wannabe reporter!
Whatever. . .I think that it is just sad that someone would admit straight up that they are banging someone – very classy. I know the dude has been banging chicks left and right at the plex. . .but that’s besides the point. . Let’s just wait and see how long this project takes. It is evident he is learning how to write packages on the job and having other people help him on a daily basis ( I have seen it for myself.) The dude is arrogant cocky and he is only nice to people he knows. Good luck on your first liveshot buddy. . .but of course they like you (which is how you got the job, in good and sucking up to all the right people) so I’m pretty sure they will try their best not to let you fail. . .Hmmmm . .. Let me see. . .There are a lot of hard working and deserving people who tried out to be reporters and were good also. . .Nah! We don’t like you! Or you never sucked up to us. . .Good Luck buddy. Just take advantage of your LUCKY BREAK! !
Just @#$%^&* amazing. Hey that’s what the industry is changing to nowadays, saving money and letting go of a lot veteran reporters and anchors! !
It’s funny how jealousy takes over people….
1. You all wish you had as many girls as Roy
2. You wish you had his talent
3. You wish you would have been able to accomplish what he accomplished
4. You wish you could carry yourself the way he does
Shall I keep going?
Again, I would just like to congradulate the people of WSVN for supporting Roy Ramos on his excellence. You GUYS ARE AWESOME!!!!!!
Wow! Somebody just admitted “yes I am a h@#” I “Had as many girls as Roy – so it’s ok for you to be in line for him, share him as if he is some GOd! Some self respect and ! Sexy-OPS girl! ! More like get around with who’s hot girl. Please jealousy! ! All that is being disputed here is fact and an unfair trend in the industry of which WSVN is taking part of. . .
Keep Going yeah. . .Roy Ramos is excellence why cause you are BONING! HIM! What are you carrying his love child uh no. . .Just as you said he is going to move on to the next hot chick you were just part of his stable for when he needs to knock one off. . Good be proud of yourself. .. .
Just in case if you haven’t read my previous posts. I congratulate him on taking advatage of this LUCKY BREAK. I just don’t agree with how he went about sucking up to get it and also how he was just Put on the air without even knowing how to write, produce, etc,Having people help him on the job. I have ran into him a couple times – yeah he;s cocky and arrogant etc. but many people are like that in this business so that’s besides the point. . .
Yeah go ahead be proud of yourself. . .You are just one in the stable . . .Cause according to you he’s a pimp and has you on his payroll defending him on a BLOG! ! ! How proud are you! ! LOL! Very Very sad. . .
Oh like you you a getting laid by everyone in the plex. . .WHo else are you fucking. . Hmm let’s see. . .Why don’t you try fucking more people at the station. . .That’s right get on your knees and work hard for that raise. . .LOL! You admit you do it so don’t be ashamed LOL!
That’s right Sexy Ops Girl. .. Earn your paycheck on your kneees. . .”Hi I’m sexyops girl and I am fucking select or everyone in the plex. . .I’m the WSVN bitch. . .Oh my bad I’m Roy’s bitch and that is how I earn my money – on my knees and defending him on this blog. . .”
LOL i know this is completely unrelated with bashing this dude Roy and his Gf. But i just moved to Miami i’ve been training Mixed Martial Arts for 2 years and am wondering where’s a good place to train. Does anyone know a good mma school or where he trains?
Hey, maybe “skankyopsgirl” will be the next reporter for WSVN. I mean, no experience as a reporter, wannabe editor, and good dick sucking skills is all you apparently need.
LOL! So dos this mean that we have figured out that sexyops girl or skankyops girl is an editor. . .Hmm. . .There aren’t any sexy girls in ops. . .Someone is frontin’ LOL
Hey Gregor, my point all along. There are no sexy girls in ops! She’s an editor alright, what other type of girl could Roy be banging! No way he can pull someone with more class!!
lmfao..OMG! HE PULLS THEM LEFT AND RIGHT AND YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW ABOUT IT. YES, HE’S THAT GOOD. AND HE IS SOOOOOOOO NOT GAY IN FACT THERE’S A LOT I COULD SAY RIGHT NOW IN HIS DEFENSE ALOT BUT I WON’T CUZ FIRST OF ALL I KNOW HE DOESN’T WANT HIS BUSINESS OUT THERE LIKE THAT AND SECOND OF ALL I HAVE WAY TOO MUCH CLASS TO WRITE DETIALS ABOUT ROY ON A BLOG.
I CAN’T BELIEVE HE HAS A BLOG WITH ACTUAL HATERS, THIS IS SOOOO FUNNY OMG AND IT MAKES HIM TEN TIMES HOTTER THEN HE ALREADY IS!!! I HAD TO WRITE SOMETHING!
THIS IS GREAT… ROY YOU’RE THE MAN SWEETY!!! YOU KNOW WHO THIS IS TOO!
roy ramos is an sick rock climber. i met him at my gym putting on rock climbing clinics like tom cruise in mission impossible. while you losers are sitting behind your computers hating on this guy between your internet porn jerk off sessions he is on tv doing his job, cage fighting, banging chicks , and rock climbing at a pro level. why don’t you losers do something productive with your time… maybe if you lighten up a little roy would let you carry his golf bag around the course on Saturdays.
IN MY OPINION… HE’S TOTALLY GAY!
Roy Is A Pimp Cage Fighter, Totally Cool Dude, Hes Going To Be A STAR!!!!!!
Ha, Roy as a reporter!!! He was a truck op and the backup skyforce photog! How he became a reporter, beats me!!!
So he’s gay. Last time I looked we are in one of the gay capitals in the United States.
Maybe he and Craig Stevens are dating
I think he is the replacement for J.P. Hervis
He seemed pretty good on the air… doubt he is gay though
Congratulations to Roy, who has worked his butt off for WSVN for years. His initiative and persistence in doing on-air work paid off. The opportunity he is getting is well-deserved, and he’ll make the most of it.

God you people.. That is the American Way. He worked hard and started from the bottom. If he got the job than he got the job cause he worked hard. Who cares if he started as a janitor or an van op.
There is also some new deco Drive reporter. he was on for the first time wednesday. His name was bucky??
To: Blah

There was someone else on Wednesday afternoon, I think. He was in the studio reporting, I think he’s a freelance? Not too sure.

GO ROY GO!
Again I agree with Ray. . .
Shilzz.. wow your frozen… You make me sick… The girl knows how to dress.. stop hating…. you jealous creap…

I agree with you The Caterer.
Wow MikeB I totally agree with you..
Wow SexyOpsGirl, admiting that you’re banging Roy is pretty brave! You might also want to get yourself checked out at the local clinic.
! LOL! Very Very sad. . .
Thunderbird you need to get laid….and you need to get laid fast.
No. . But very funny Andres LOL!
