First NBC O&O-designed Site Launches; Not for WTVJ

7

The first NBC O&O site designed by NBC Local Media debuted Oct 13th.

NBCChicago.com is the first NBC O&O site to move away from InternetBroadcasting by changing not only the design but also the name and branding of the station online.

No more station/channel branding. All NBC-owned stations will be re-branded as NBCCityName both online and on air.

According to NBC’s presser the new design and re-brand is “targeting “Locals Only,” providing news, entertainment and information for the true city insider” and completely moving away from using the .com as an extension of the TV station online, something a lot of people have criticized in the past.

NBC Local Media itself is apparently trying to “transform its business and become a full-service multi-platform content provider for the local marketplace”.

Oct 16th will see LA, San Diego and San Francisco getting the new digs. Followed by Dallas, Philly and D.C. on the 20th then New York and Hartford on October 27.

WTVJ, at least according to the press release from which it is missing, is not getting neither the re-brand nor the web site redesign. There is NBCMiami.com which forwards to nbc6.net though.

Right before the Olympics NBC did the reverse and re-branded their San Francsco station’s on-air look with a new graphics package and name going from NBC11 to NBC Bay Area.

Local10.com is designed by InternetBroadcasting

  1. i dont like the local branding. If anything it should be NBC South Fl. it should not be NBC Miami. I dont live in Miami i live in Fort Lauderdale.

  2. Michael, maybe when they decided to to call it NBC Miami they forgot that part of their audience does not live there.

NBC can’t do anything right. No wonder the place is getting shuttered. They forgot about their audience a long time ago.

  3. WTVJ is th best TV station in town. I am a reporter there and no one covers news like we do. We have some of the best on air talent in town, from Father Demarco Morgan, the Babe, Tisha Lewis, Sharon “island girl” lawson, Trina “blow me away with your style” Robinson to Gray “the mac daddy of suits” Hall. You are all haters and all wish you worked for us making the money and living the flashy life that we have.

  4. I can tell you that KNBC in LA has launched the NBC Los Angeles site, but is still NBC 4 on-air. The new site looks nice, but the whole NBC City Name thing is a copy of FOX’s MyFOX.

Speaking of FOX, KTTV is now HD! The soft launch occured Mon during the coverage of the fires and the real launch was on Wed.

  5. What is the typeface used in the local NBC O&O Station’s graphic when watching the newscasts? (i.e. the one that displays the reporter’s name, location, etc.)
