You might have noticed that the news on CBS4 sound different lately. A little before sweeps month started CBS4 News got a sound makeover. They dropped their news theme of 8 years and replaced it with a custom package.
The cut used in the open and bumps is from a song written for WFOR by 615 Music called “The Best Thing About Home”. The song is used in current station promos.
Current Open including promos:
Previous Open from September 2007:
No matter what they do, I STILL HATE CBS4 News
Horrible horrible weak music. Please CBS 4, change it!
It should be a general rule among TV stations that you NEVER, EVER use Times as a font for your news graphics. It just looks cheesy and cheap. The fact that a major O&O is doing this makes it even worse.
I like it.
Hate the new music.. HAVE HATED the Times font for many months now… crazy people.
Julian, what is wrong with you?
615 music is a cheap royalty free music service. Anyone could buy the rights to use that music.
4 always has been weak in news, but at one point a few years ago they at least had some decent looking graphics and animations. I’d say it rivaled Ch7.
Their new grapahics look real cheap. I am no graphic designer, but the new graphics look like they hired some kid using After Effects templates off a laptop.
And the whole 80’s style promos with the “Best Thing About Home” is so cheesey. The shots with the anchors sitting and walking around Miami landmarks and yucking it up with the little people. And than they put a bug on screen that makes it look like music video. Yeessh.
I am sorry. Ch4 is just pathetic. Miami ain’t Mayberry. And they try to sell these two newer anchors as home town locals. I know one was originally from here, but these promos and the music, the look, in a word sucks. I am sure 10 and 7 are happy though.
It is almost like the person who dreamed this campaign up had never been here before.
You know, there are people who create, and people who bitch. I’m amazed at the whining here. Ben, all you ever do is complain about the TV station which pisses you off this week. Maybe if you hadn’t been rejected by every station in Miami you might have an occasional constructive comment. Like your comments about 4. Gee, three years in a row they were honored as the best station in the Southeast by Southeast by RTNDA with Edward R. Murrow awards. This year, they got 3 more, including 1 for best newscast. They break big important stories all the time. Their website is the most useful and updated TV station website in Miami. This Sunday, they have 5 folks…count em, 5…getting the Silver Circle award for 25 in SOFLA TV. That’s a station with 150 years of experience, a story with repeated national honors, which breaks more big stories than most other stations combined.
And I don’t even watch, that’s just what I’ve read about them in the herald.
Why not focus on what matters. Music? Pah. Most people care about what counts, which is news. If music is what bothers you, or typefaces, you are simply looking for petty things to complain about.
All local TV stations could use help in some areas. None are perfect. Nobody at 7 can write. 4 can’t figure out what city stories are in. 6 is solid but makes people sleepy. 10? Losing good people because the politics inside are terrible.
Bitch about the meat, not the whipped topping.
Great post DTV Fan!
I could not have said it better.
DTV
I’ll bitch about whatever I choose to. Sorry if pointing out the hypocrisy of stupidity of what goes on in TV offends you, too bad. It’s my view. I always hope against hope we’ll get better. They do have a role in our community that they continually abuse in my view.
I have not applied for any jobs at these places.
As far as 150 years of experience and all those awards…You need to know that they have to pay a fee to submit stories for those awards. They are not a barometer of anything. I read here from a CH 10 insider that they don’t win awards because they won’t pay the submission fees. That tells me the awards don’t tell us who produces the best stories, just the best stories that are submitted to those organizations. But the Herald failed to tell you that one little fact in the article you mentioned. Hence, the need to pound the local media for never giving us the full story. The “pay to play” angle should certainly change your perspective on these awards.
And if 4 has the award for “Best Newscast” why do they have the low ratings? Obviously there is a disconnect between the viewers (who matter) and awards organizations(who don’t matter).
If those awards meant anything than they wouldn’t be laying people off.
Ben. I obviously know nothing about TV. YOU DON’T HAVE TO PAY FOR SILVER CIRCLE AWARD SUBMISSIONS!
Hopefully when hi-def comes around for the newscast, they will make a better decision on music/graphics and the set.
I serioulsy dont see the big deal over the music but i do think the graphic/font is horrible.
Ben, so the excuse the Channel 10 insider makes is that they won’t pay entry fees? For the Murrow, the station pays them and the cost of entering is $110 per entry, about 9 minutes of helicopter time showing a routine accident. Professional recognition for excellence isn’t worth that? Seems like a pretty lame excuse, and a pretty lame apology from someone who doesn’t understand television. If you believe its about the money, you need to buy a clue. You say “If Ch4 has the award..” Here’s a suggestion: look it up, there’s no IF involved. But that would involve getting a fact, and you’re not big on those. Ratings don’t have anything to do with quality. If they did, PBS would be the number 1 network and “farmer wants a wife” would be on a 4 a.m. People will go out of their way to watch crap. Excellence has nothing to do with ratings. And just to set the record straight, if you researched your facts before you burped out a reply you’d know these are not layoffs; CBS eliminated the positions. People won’t be back, as a layoff implies. The jobs are gone, This had nothing to do with 4, because all CBS stations eliminated jobs. Do some research. The internet is used for more than stealing music these days.
DTV –
When I first moved to Miami I yelled and got upset with the idiot drivers. After a while I decided it wasn’t worth it…I was getting stressed over idiots who didn’t have a clue what they were doing. Ben is kind of like that. He’s an idiot but no matter what you write, his flawed, circular logic, will tell him he’s right. It’s no use trying to argue with someone who can’t see past his own opinion.
Cord…
Great point. Those long hours shaving the beef at Arby’s probably dull his brain.
DTV & the other two synchphants,
Where do I start? First of all I know for a fact there are stations who won’t pay the fees. Who cares why, except maybe they know that the awards don’t mean anything to viewers. No one watches a station because of awards.
DTV, get over this. No matter what you do. No matter what fantasies enter your creepy little brain, you will never get a date with Craig Stevens. For your own sanity, let me remind you it’s TV and that the people on the news aren’t your friends. You may think you know them but you don’t. Stop this before you find yourself with your pants down outside of Ch10 late one night stalking Laurie Jennings of something.
In terms of the CBS layoffs, I did some research (I guess if a simple mind like yours considers a Google news search as research) and it was reported as layoffs. If you want to say eliminated, say eliminated. I am sure the subtle difference means nothing to the person who lost their job at this station that is winning so many awards for “exellence”.
Wait, here is a headline from the NYT “CBS Moves Ahead With Layoffs in News”.
Wait here is a story from US News & World Report, “CBS Moves Ahead With Layoffs in News, TV Layoffs in Miami, Denver, and Sacramento”
What were you saying about facts DTV?
I don’t work at Arby’s. It’s Pizza Hut.
And for the record, journalism (Tv and otherwise) is not a profession as you profess. It is a trade.
Ben, Ben. Too lame for even Arby’s? Wow. Pizza hut is like the end of the line. Bet you deliver in your mom’s 1989 Oldsmobile when your used Vespa is in the shop. You are a sad, strange, pathetic little drone, drawn to TV News but condemned by your ignorance to be an outsider. Heavens. Too stupid for TV. The delicious irony. I’m out. You’re a drag, and unlike you, I have a life. Cords’s right. Goodbye everyone. I’ll be back when the finally repossess Ben’s People PC.
DTV,
It’s a good thing you know nothing about debates. Otherwise, you would know that your last post is an admission you have no argument.
But don’t lie. You will read my posts. Deep down in the recesses of your vacant mind you know I am right. You aren’t going anywhere.
I don’t watch 4, but I looked in to see what all of the noise was about. Didn’t suck.
