Alex Arreaza, a Fort Lauderdale attorney and candidate for Broward County Chief Public Defender, is unhappy with the face time Howard Finkelstein gets on WSVN’s ‘Help Me Howard’ segment and feels he should get equal airtime himself.
Arreaza sent a letter to WSVN citing federal broadcast rules for candidates but GM Robert Leider responded that equal time doesn’t apply to news broadcasts:
WSVN respectfully declines your request, because Mr. Finkelstein’s broadcast appearances have been part of regularly-scheduled, bona-fide news programming.
Finkelstein joined Channel 7 as legal analyst in 1995, and has provided legal advice on ‘Help Me Howard’ since 1998.
Arreaza will challenge Finkelstein August 26 for the Democratic nomination for Broward Public Defender.
My guess is fellow candidate Gary Ostrow won’t make the same plea for equal time…

The main point to the finkelstein thing is that Howard is not out there campaigning in his segments, he just advices the different viewers who have legal concerns. Therefore I dont see a reason the other canidates should get equal time

I think you lack an education, perhaps you never got through high school (or any school). Let me clear up some confusion for you.
1) Being a Republican is not synonymous with being conservative and not all conservatives are Republicans. There are conservative Democrats and there are liberal Democrats. That’s so basic I feel foolish having to explain that you. At least no one knows who you are, so don’t feel bad for being dumb. Just fix it.

Your property taxes are the result of home values. You don’t mention what taxes you are talking about, which means you probably don’t know what you are talking about anyway and are just babbling something you heard on TV.

3) It was Democrats that opposed the civil rights movement (they lost, and blacks won equal protection under the law). It was the Republicans, the party of Lincoln, (he was a president once) that freed the slaves.

4) The US was founded on the teachings of the Bible. How could you not know that? Out founding fathers said it and wrote time and time again about God’s place in our government. 5) I don’t think Republicans tell women what to do with babies anymore than Democrats do. I think you are referring to unborn babies and abortion. Right? No one is able to tell women what to do on this issue. That issue was settled in the 70s and women are free to exterminate unborn children at will. It’s interesting that your refer to them as “babies”. Most pro-abortionists don’t acknowledge them as human. You are leading the pack on that one. Congrats.

Some of the founders were Freemasons, Benjamin Franklin being one of them. Freemasons by and large are not Bible-waving christians. Not christians at all for that matter.

Jefferson quote. Typical, those secularists who hate religion always go for Jefferson. You are referring to the old separation of church and state letter. Yes, Jefferson and some were suspicious of religion and there were others that believed in God. But the genius is that the founders on both sides secured the rights for religious freedom for ALL in the Constitution. What they sought to do was to remove government from requiring that someone belong to a church or ascribe to a particular faith. But no where in the Constitution is there anything that says “separation of church and state”. That is a myth.
The founding fathers, whether Christian or not, sought to separate government from supporting religious sects and state run church which were prevalent at the time. that’s why there is no state run church today and that’s a good thing.

When the Founders refer to Providence, the Creator etc, they are speaking about God. They are nor referring to Allah of Buddha.
I am not saying I am even a person of faith. I just look at facts and I don’t think myself superior to people of faith like you seem to. I don’t describe someone who goes to church in derogatory ways such as a “bible thumper”. To do so alienates yourself from the majority of the Americans and is elitist. I don’t have a problem with what anyone believes and I think that was the intent of the founders. The Constitution says much about religious FREEDOM.

What I find interesting is those who wrap themselves in the flag and the Bible usually have little understanding of either. It is true that the Bible speaks of “simple-minded faith,” but the problems start when the faith is misapplied in real life. Of course it should be no surprise that people misread the Bible, because half of our Supreme Court has no clue what the Constitution means. Scalia in particular is a drooling idiot. One reason I find Obama so appealing is because when he speaks of faith, he doesn’t feel compelled to cram it down everyone’s throat. It would be a better world if people did the right thing in life because they are basically good and not because they fear eternal damnation. In closing, let me say this: Bush, Cheney, et al, know nothing of Country, God nor Republicanism. What they have done for the last eight years has nothing to do with GOP tradition, and even though I am a lifelong Democrat, I would welcome some old-fashioned Republicans who seem to love their country more than their wallets. Time will prove what losers this administration has been populated with.
